    About :

The stage of Hive Open Mic is dressed up for this week 152 in which we have to present traditional music, a song chosen by the very talented @bertrayo and which I am sure will allow us to witness great entries in this community.

I believe that one of the wonders that we Venezuelans have is our great musical richness, which is instilled in us from an early age, with those songs that in the end remain engraved in our memory. That is the case of the song that I present to you today, it is a waltz called Preciosa Merideña, written by Pedro J. Castellano in 1954.

It turns out that, in my childhood, when I began to take my first steps in music and more specifically with the Venezuelan cuatro, this song was a challenge for me, I remember that it was difficult for me to make a tone and always frustrated me for not being able to play it complete, but time and perseverance are rewarding the efforts we make and finally I could play the song complete.

This week I have the opportunity to share this beautiful song that has a beautiful story behind its composition. Pedro Castellanos was a blind musician who was playing in the Plaza Bolivar in Merida and suddenly a heavy rain fell and his blindness did not allow him to know which way to go, until he heard a sweet voice and felt a delicate hand that took him by the arm and led him to a place where he could take shelter from the rain. Pedro José liked the gesture so much that it awakened his musical creative fiber and he reciprocated by creating one of the most beautiful melodies ever composed for Mérida... and which has brought her international renown. "Preciosa Merideña". I hope you enjoy my version.

    Tan puro y virginal,
Fue en la plaza bolívar merideña
Donde juré, no dejarte de amar.

Y la suave caricia de la sierra
    Se acerca hasta tu rostro
    Tan puro y virginal,
Fue en la plaza bolívar merideña
Donde juré, no dejarte de amar.

    Precious Merideña

Beautiful woman, listen to this poem
My heart is invaded by sorrow.
    Hey woman, beautiful merideña,
I never thought of giving you my heart

Pretty woman, listen to this poem
My heart is invaded by sorrow.
    Hey woman, beautiful merideña,
I never thought to give you my heart

And the soft caress of the mountains
It comes close to your face
    So pure and virginal,
It was in the Plaza Bolivar, Merida.
Where I swore, not to stop loving you.

And the soft caress of the mountains
    Approaches your face
    So pure and virginal,
It was in Merida's Bolivar Square
Where I swore, not to stop loving you.
