Hello my people. What's popping! I hope the weekend is going smoothly.
On my own part, all I can say is that am chilling to good vibes.
It's Afri-tunes week 18. It's another big opportunity to showcase and celebrate AFROBEAT and African music. Like I always say, afri-tunes have peculiar vibes that brings the listener to want to dance to it's beat, so get ready because this time it's vibe on vibe!!

This week, I bring you something rich and special. It's a very beautiful song by our own beloved simisola titled "Woman" a beautiful song that highlights the plight of women in the society.
This is evident in the opening line of the song where the singer says "woman Don suffer" which is a pidgin English translation of women have suffered.

I would say that the song has a feminist undertone. In other words, the song is both a revelation of the many discriminations and insult women go through in the society and an eye opener for women to stand up for their rights.

In utmost sincerity, she has a point because women especially in the African society has been disregarded as some underdog. Even when they merit some accolades, it is rather given to men in their lives as it is believed that women's only function is in the kitchen.

Fortunately, this horrible experience of women is continously diminishing and women are being recognised by their merits these days compared to before. Thanks to active feminists like Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and of course, Simi, the singer of this beautiful song.
The message of the song is a very powerful and revolutionary one.
More and more still need to be done in other to fully secure the rights of women in our society.
