Otu Hostel : A Digital Nomad Friendly Stay

Finding good housing as a digital nomad is quite a challenge. There are many considerations before finding a good place to stay. In my early days of it, I was using air-bnb for my short-term stay. It was one of the ways that I could think of where I could get a nice monthly rate with discounts. However, as I go there are some amenities that are a must for me and also some places offer better rates than AirBNB. Like this place called Otu Hostel, this place is a digital nomad friendly housing while you work and also get to know the local culture.

Otu Hostel is located in the tourist housing in prawirotaman street. This area is known for its hostels and also hotels where mostly backpackers and tourists stay. Compared to the Malioboro area, this place is located more on the south and on the quieter side. So, if you like to get to know the locals' way of life, this area is perfect.

In this area, there are plenty western restaurants, dining, beers, and more. The local market is also only a few minutes away along with banks and pharmacies. The nightlife in bars and clubs around this area is also quite vibrant compared to malioboro. It’s also much easier to find alcohol than in Malioboro.

Finding Otu Hostel is quite tricky. Google maps are always taking you to pass through the big road. But the easiest way to find this place is by stopping the taxi or public transportation in front of the arkadia restaurant. From there, walk about 5 minutes then you will find an Otu sign. Along this small alley, there will be plenty of hostels with different themes.

Among many other options in this area, Otu Hostel is a modern hostel with a mix of hostel and 1 star rate hotel amenities. However, since the name is still a hostel, it has the friendliness and coziness of a hostel. In this video below, I am showing you the look inside the area.

After a long day of working, you can take a dip into this 1.7m pool and have some relaxation.
The room of this place is quite standard. So, you obviously can’t expect something fancy. But don’t worry about the cleanliness of the room, it is all clean and as comfortable as a studio apartment.

If you are staying in this place, you can also use the kitchen to cook. There’s also free water available as long as you’re drinking from the cup not from the bottle. This place is way better than the place that I’ve stayed in Bali. On average, the room rate here is 185.000IDR/night for a queen size bed with a private bathroom. But if you like sharing a room, it is only for 69.000IDR via traveloka booking. This place also offers tours and motorbike rent. So, if you can ride a motorbike and want to do some tours, you can talk to the staff about it.

The wifi speed in this place is quite decent. So, you don’t have to worry about your connectivity while trying to work from this place. Overall, this place is worth every penny. The place is serene and it’s the best place to spend the day while nomading in yogyakarta. I definitely recommend this place more than a hotel around this area.
