    About :

This is the first rifle cleaning post. I am starting with the Mosin Nagant bc it’s a common and surprisingly inexpensive rifle for how old, dependable, and well made these rifles are. You could probably find one for $500 or less if you’re lucky and find a good deal. This is a five round bolt action rifle. The side lever that you open and slide back to eject each round and reload another is what makes this a bolt action. This was used a sniper rifle bc of it’s ability to reach far away targets with accuracy.

It fires a 7.62X54 mm round which has significantly more power, kick, velocity, and all around out perform the smaller 7.62X39 that is fired by its cousin twice removed AK47 despite being less popular. It is still used in service to this day by the Russian military since it was first put into production in 1891. The name is derived from the two designers Sergei Mosin and Emile Nagant. This gun has not been manufactured since 1973 when the last ones came off the production lines. An estimated 37 million have been made, all are top quality rifles and most who end up buying this rifle use it constantly and rarely run into problems. It’s also an estimated 80%-90% of all rifles have been used to snipe people. I don’t know if it’s a myth but bc it’s purpose was to be used as a sniper rifle during war times I can assume that anything older than 1950 was used to eliminate someone.

!!!!!!!!Personal disclaimer: I am deeply sorry that the video cuts off before I am done cleaning, along with some of the video quality in my posts. I am new to technology and am half lost and constantly need my hand held while creating my posts. I assure The Hive community that with each mistake and fuck up I will advance my knowledge and the quality of my posts will grow.!!!!!!!!

This rifle will usually come with a bayonet and ramrod that can be used to clean and disassemble this rifle. I did not use them bc I did not see the bayonet in the case it came in and I forgot I had the detachable ramrod from the front of the gun.

The first step is to make sure this gun is empty of ammunition. So unload your gun!

Next you’re going to release the 2 barrel rings. This holds the wood to the barrel, the iron sight on the front of the barrel should stop the rings from complete sliding off.

After that you’ll want o begin to disassemble the rifle starting with the drop magazine and bolt. You remove the magazine by flipping the gun upside down, there right in front of the trigger should be a release.

After you press the release it should open up the magazine, squeeze this together in order to detach from the gun like a pair of pliers.

To remove the bolt open and slide it all the way back, pull the trigger and pull back on the bolt in order to release it from its housing area from the gun.

There are 2 screws that need to be removed. The first one is located on the underside in front of the magazine and the trigger guard.

Behind where the bolt sits on top of your rifle there will be the second screw. When you remove this it will allow you to remove the wooden housing from the rest of the metal pieces which should just be the barrel and trigger.

Check the wood for anything rotted or build up that looks like salt residue. The stuff that looks like salt residue is corrosive material and should be cleaned with an ammonia solution and not regular gun oil. You don’t have to buy expensive ammonia products, you can buy windex with ammonia and this will work on the wood and metal parts to remove the corrosive residue.

Use a cleaning patch attached to a ramrod to clean the barrel. Use a ramrod that reaches at least a little more than halfway through the barrel in order to reach the entire length. Go through with a patch or cloth with some of your cleaning solution and wipe down all metal parts. Some might have hard to reach areas or be dirtier than other parts. Spend time on those parts and take your time in order to make sure you don’t miss any parts.

After you’ve removed all dirt, grime, and possible corrosion you can reassemble your rifle. Do this in reverse. Screw the screws back in place. Slide the bolt back in by lining it up with the grooves and pull the trigger to allow the bolt to slide in. Squeeze the magazine insides like a pair of pliers to open the attaching clip and should swing closed once attached. Last thing you’re going to slide the barrel rings back down the barrel until they click back into the holding clips located on the side of the barrel on the wooden part.

This rifle did have the bayonet included, I just didn't see it in the case when I took the rifle out.
