Folks, I know I'm very late to this. That this movie was released almost two months ago. That thousands of reviews and critiques have already been published everywhere, that it's already out of fashion, but still, I want to give my opinion and my review. I hope you enjoy it and I hope I can be original.

I will start from what I liked the most to what I liked the least.

🎨ART & ANIMATION

I think we all agree when I say that the best thing about this film is its art and animation, without any doubt. In this aspect it is a 10, without thinking about it.
Personally, I love to see how so many different styles coexist in the same movie. How each universe and each character has its own art style.

Gwen's universe. With those pastel tones and its watercolor effect.

The spider India universe

Spider punk universe.

We also have the villain based on the style of Leonardo da Vinci.

The universe that seems to be inspired by the illustrations of old comics.

They all have a unique and particular style and I love that. To such an extent that I would venture to say that in terms of art and animation, it is the best film of the last decade. Before moving on to the next aspect I want to highlight two highlights.

The first, when Gwen embraces her father and the colors change from cold to warm. When they go from blues and purples to reds and pinks. This scene conveys a lot of feeling and I found it simply beautiful.

The second one is the chase scene, when all the spidermen try to catch Miles. I think here we can see the full potential of the animation. I don't want to imagine all the hours it must have taken to animate so many characters at the same time.

🎵 MUSIC & SOUNDTRACK

In this aspect I don't have much to say. The soundtrack is very good in general, with several outstanding themes. But I want to mention something that when I heard it, it blew my mind. The last piece of music in the movie, when it is ending, is a combination of several themes. First we have Miles' hero theme along with the prowler theme. Then we add Gwen's drum solo (which had been introduced at the beginning) and at the end appears the guitar strumming representing spider punk. This is an incredible and amazing detail. It reflects all the love and work that went into this movie.

🎭 PLOT

The plot is good, entertaining and interesting. It totally delivers. We have this new villain called "spot" who is the result of the collider explosion. Which in turn was caused by Miles in the first movie. Because of this accident the villain loses everything in his life, his family, his job, his friends, everything. And now he seeks revenge against Miles. He will seek to take everything from him and plans to do it with the help of his powers. That allow him to travel between universes, appear and disappear things and teleport anywhere.

👥CHARACTERS

Overall, I liked all the characters.

I liked Spider punk (Hobie Brown) very much, with that revolutionary and rebellious style.

Indian Spider (Pavitr Prabhakar) the same, a character full of charisma that makes it impossible to dislike him.

Spider 2099 (Miguel O'Hara) was my favorite character by far. It's nice to see a spiderman who takes things seriously.

Peter B. Parker, for me, was the weakest character. It's a shame because in the first movie he had been my favorite character. The problem is that the first 5 minutes of the daddy-mode Peter was adorable, cute and even funny, but after that he became tedious and exhausting. The whole movie in the pink robe, the whole movie making jokes with his baby. It was a waste of this character in this movie.

Miles Morales es un protagonista decente, no me quejo, pero en muchas ocasiones llega a caer mal por lo inmaduro que es. Aunque lo entiendo porque tiene 15 años.

Spot is a good villain, I really like his concept. I really liked how he is presented, being a joke, a mockery, that no one takes seriously and with the course of the film is gaining respect and seriousness. Until the end where he becomes a real danger to the multiverse.

💪 MILES EXAGGERATEDLY STRONG

There was one scene that I particularly disliked.

The chase scene where all the spidermen chase Miles seems really stupid to me. are you going to tell me that a 15 year old teenage spiderman, who got his powers a year ago, managed to single-handedly humiliate a squad of hundreds of spidermen working together?
I don't want to get too rigorous either, because at the end of the day we're judging a movie that's about men with spiderman powers traveling the multiverse. But still, I found this scene nonsensical and embarrassing, even though it's visually beautiful.

🤢 POLITICS

I know most people don't care about this, but it bothers me when they put politics into these types of movies, even if they have done it in a very discreet way. Putting the black lives mather pin, putting trans pride flags. Honestly, I think these things are totally over the top and left over. Whether it's left or right wing, politics is totally left over in these types of movies.

In closing, I'd like to say that even though it's July and there are still a lot of movies to be released. This is my favorite movie of 2023.

spider-man: across the spider-verse se merece un 8.5/10.
