Recuerdos de Gaming y Amistad con Hydro-Thunder [Esp-Eng]

Hola amigos del mundo Geek, hoy he regresado para reseñar un juego de video histórico, de los que guardo muy gratos recuerdos. De mi parte ya había pensado en hablarles de este fabuloso juego de carreras, que se convirtió en todo un clásico de los años 90. Su nombre es Hydro Thunder y su estreno data del año 1999, a cargo de la compañía Sega Dreamcast; que era pionera en la creación de juegos de video de aquel entonces. Probablemente, muchos de ustedes hayan escuchado de éste o incluso han tenido la oportunidad de disfrutar una partida.

Hello friends of the Geek world, today I'm back to review a historical video game, of which I have very fond memories. I had already thought of telling you about this fabulous racing game, which became a classic of the 90's. Its name is Hydro Thunder and its release dates back to 1999, by the company Hydro Thunder. Parte de esta historia muy personal, inicia con la apertura de un establecimiento de videojuegos, en uno de los sectores de la comunidad donde crecí. Uno de los muchachos que vivía en esa casa, era un amigo común de nosotros, cuando digo nosotros, me refiero a mis dos amigos de la cuadra y mi persona. Cuando estábamos aburridos, pasábamos a la casa del pana Douglas para distraernos un poco en horas de la tarde. Era una sala con unos 7 pantallas, ojo no existían las pantallas LED ni mucho menos, así que se trataba de esos televisores conocidos como culones ja,ja,ja.

Part of this very personal story begins with the opening of a video game store in one of the sectors of the community where I grew up. One of the guys who lived in that house, was a common friend of ours, when I say we, I mean my two friends from the block and myself. When we were bored, we would go to Douglas's house to distract ourselves a little in the afternoon. It was a room with about 7 screens, of course there were no LED screens, so they were those televisions known as "culones" ha,ha,ha,ha.

Cuando llegábamos al local, ya éramos conocidos por los demás chicos que frecuentaban en "famoso lugar"; no voy a exagerar cuando les digo que nos trataban como estrellas ja,ja,ja; y aunque siempre variábamos de juego, había un par de estos que se habían convertido en los preferidos, tanto de nosotros como de la muchachada que colmaba el sitio. Cuando llegaba nuestro turno, nuestro primer selección era precisamente Hydro Thunder, el entretenido juego de carreras de lanchas de gran velocidad, nuestro estilo era que cada uno de nosotros, hacía una carrera, la que más le gustaba y con el bote preferido (porque la tenía un solo control).

When we arrived at the place, we were already known by the other kids who frequented the "famous place"; I will not exaggerate when I say that we were treated like stars ha,ha,ha,ha; and although we always varied the games, there were a couple of these that had become the favorites, both of us and of the crowd that filled the place. When it was our turn, our first selection was precisely Hydro Thunder, the entertaining game of high speed boat racing, our style was that each one of us did a race, the one we liked the most and with our favorite boat (because we had only one control).

En este menú aparecen las pistas acuáticas donde se realizan las carreras, acá debo destacar el excelente trabajo gráfico de los creadores, que resaltan escenarios espectaculares que abordan temas culturales de países de todo el mundo. Recuerdo que la pista más larga y que aparece oculta en la imagen anexa, es la "Nile adventure", en la que aparecen las pirámides, cocodrilos y todo los elementos propios del antiguo Egipto. Esos detalles, convertían a Hydro thunder en un entretenimiento de otro nivel para la época; además ser complementado por la incomparable voz de Brian Silva.

This menu shows the aquatic tracks where the races take place, here I must highlight the excellent graphic work of the creators, who highlight spectacular scenarios that address cultural themes of countries around the world. I remember that the longest track, hidden in the attached image, is the "Nile adventure", where the pyramids, crocodiles and all the elements of ancient Egypt appear. These details turned Hydro thunder into an entertainment of another level for that time; besides being complemented by the incomparable voice of Brian Silva.

Eran momentos sencillamente épicos, donde la diversión era algo colectivo; los chavales del lugar nos rodeaban para vernos clasificar y avanzar a las siguientes pistas, (debías ganar las carreras previas para acumular puntos y desbloquear las pistas de niveles más difíciles); ni hablar de la emoción al descubrir nuevos atajos que permitían tomar la delantera. Todavía resuena en mi mente aquel conteo característico del inicio de cada manga: Three, two, one Go! Go! Go!

Those were simply epic moments, where the fun was something collective; the local kids surrounded us to see us classify and advance to the next tracks, (you had to win the previous races to accumulate points and unlock the harder level tracks); not to mention the excitement of discovering new shortcuts that allowed you to take the lead. I still remember the characteristic countdown at the beginning of each race: Three, two, one Go! Go! Go! Go!
