    About :

Welcome to another edition of the Shape of the Cape, today in this video clip I'm exploring the rugged coastal terrain on the remote south coast of Africa, in a region called the Garden Route. It is perhaps the most beautiful region on the south coast of Africa and in the video I come across a nicely flowing stream, with secluded rock pools. Anyone would be happy surviving here.

Surrounding ourselves in nature or with totally natural surroundings like we see in the video clip, is the healthiest solution for us in today's current global pandemic scenario. This water seen here is from the recent rainfall and the stream appears to be active throughout the year, as long as there is a little rain. It may dry up over the dry season naturally, yet it is hidden and probably only used by animals in the area, like the baboons and buck.

I enjoy exploring this area, as it remains deserted most of the time except for a few fishermen on rare occasions, who climb down to the shoreline nearby to catch fish. I am able to roam around at my leisure without any concern. As a result I find this to be the best practice for my physical as well as spiritual health.

Here I have the opportunity to meditate and commune with nature, absorbing the healthy atmosphere and keeping fit with all the rock climbing. Wherever you are, I hope that you can also access some healthy outdoor terrain to roam around in. This is how we will survive and thrive in the current pandemic and health concern. Just get out and about in the sun and fresh air. Never has it been more important to do such simple things that we have always taken for granted.

To survive outdoors in this area and environment will be quite easy. It just requires a few crucial items that nay camper would have with them, like a water filter. The water flowing here appears clean but a filter will help to ensure that. Otherwise boiling the water first before drinking it will work well, I presume. There are only a few people around and there is little to pollute the water here, as we are close to the cliff edge already and there are no major farming activities nearby that might leak chemicals into the stream.

Outdoor exploration in the vast open area along the coast here is really exhilarating so if you ever get the opportunity to travel again - whenever that may be - I recommend a visit to the southern Cape coast of Africa. The climate is mild all year long, so even now in winter I am able to spend hours outdoors hiking along the cliffs on most days.

Curiously as lockdown arrived, the beaches here in sunny South Africa were banned or made off limits, but now people are returning to the beaches and the police simply look on but leave the people to enjoy the natural beach areas. Perhaps common sense has prevailed. It appears obvious that walking on the beach n the fresh sea air, is actually tremendously beneficial for our health, so the beach ban made no sense at all.

The stream in the video clip today is a small one but it does wind down to the shoreline just a little distance away, after first pouring over a cliff and down to the vegetation below.

I will continue exploring the area and post some more video clips of the area in coming days. The simple beauty and purity of the natural surroundings really appeal to me and I hope to share them with you in future.
