This time we will recreate in a gameplay one of the most important battles in the early military career of Napoleon Bonaparte, is the Battle of Lodi in 1796.

Brief History of the Battle

Napoleon commanded the troops that went to the north of Italy against the Austrian troops led by field marshal Beaulieu, despite being in retreat had more soldiers, artillery and supplies than the army commanded by the young Napoleon, however taking advantage of their audacity and intelligence to make rapid attacks after a chase of several days.

The Austrian troops used their advanced artillery power to try to repel the French troops on the banks of the Adda River, however with the arrival of reinforcements Napoleon was able to continue the attack. The crossing of the bridge over the river was strategically essential to crush the Austrian troops. In spite of the strong onslaught of the Austrian batteries, the army commanded by Bonaparte managed to cross the bridge, a risky maneuver in which he could lose his life, because he carried out an attack of soldiers with bayonets to attack Austrian troops, to later send the cavalry to make quick attacks against the rear of the Austrian troops, demoralized they fled in disorder to Cremona, where they were reached by the light cavalry of the French army after a quick attack where they followed the Austrian rear to Olio.

The Austrians had in the battle from 2000 to 3000 dead and wounded, on the other hand the losses of the French were only 200. A magnificent victory that meant a significant advance for the image of Napoleon in which he was able to conquer many hearts due to this extraordinary battle framed by his courage, intelligence and skill on the battlefield, taking into account the numerical superiority of the Austrian enemy, Napoleon was able to motivate the soldiers to perform an almost impossible feat in Lodi, that is why this battle is so remembered and named as one of the most important for the military and political career of Napoleon

On the GamePlay

I must clarify that I am not a great expert in battles, in fact I have not played much in this game mode, however I was able to obtain the victory by performing several well marked maneuvers that can be observed in the video.

In the video you can appreciate a river in which as in history it was key to obtain the victory, however the Austrian artillery defended that position, therefore I sent all my available artillery to bombard the position of the Austrian artillery so that it did not shoot against the infantry.

Another strategy that I used, easy to appreciate in the video, was to send the fastest available unit to attack the rear of the Austrian army, which at the time of departure was already demoralized, the cavalry totally ended up with two large infantry squads even the one on a hill. At the same moment I sent the infantry to the village and to repel the Austrians hiding in the buildings.

As I advanced into the town I was able to surround the enemy infantry with cavalry, making a surprise attack while they tried to stop the advance of the foot soldiers, besides I had to send the soldiers to conquer a cathedral where many enemy soldiers were hiding.

Once the center of the town was taken, I could not pass by the bridge, because the enemy artillery was destroyed by the bombardment of my cannons. I only had to face the Austrian resistance in a direct attack with my combined infantry and cavalry. When I defeated them on the bridge, all that was left was to reach and ambush Field Marshal Beaulieu, who finally fell dead and I was able to win the battle.

I have to emphasize that my victory was tight, it means that I was able to improve the strategy and the mobilization of troops, I really haven't played many battles, I hope to improve by doing more historical battles of Napoleon, follow me in this campaign of battles to go through a game, part of the history of this great emperor and extraordinary strategist.

En esta oportunidad recrearemos en un gameplay una de las batallas más importante en los comienzos de la carrera militar de Napoleón Bonaparte, es la batalla de Lodi en el año de 1796.

Breve Historia de la Batalla

Napoleón comandando las tropas que se dirigía al norte de Italia contra las tropas austriacas dirigidas por mariscal de campo Beaulieu, a pesar estar en retirada contaba con más soldados, artillería y suministros que el ejército comandado por el joven Napoleón, sin embargo aprovechando su audacia e inteligencia para realizar ataques rápido luego de una persecución de varios días.

La Batalla

Las tropas austriacas utilizaron su avanzado poder de artillería para intentar repeler las tropas francesas en la orilla del río Adda, sin embargo con la llegada de refuerzos pudo proseguir con el ataque. El paso del puente sobre el río era estratégicamente esencial para aplastar las tropas austriacas. A pesar de la fuerte embestida de las baterías austriacas el ejército comandado por Bonaparte consiguió cruzar el puente, una maniobra arriesgada en la cual pudo perder la vida, debido a que el mismo llevo un ataque de soldados con bayonetas a arremeter contra tropas austriacas, para posteriormente enviar la caballería para realizar ataques rápidos contra la retaguardia de las tropas austriacas, desmoralizadas huyeron en desorden a Cremona, donde fueron alcanzados por la caballería ligera del ejército francés después de un rápido ataque donde siguieron a la retaguardia austriaca hasta Olio.

Los austriacos tuvieron en la batalla de 2000 a 3000 muertos y heridos, por otro lado las pérdidas de los franceses fueron solo 200. Una victoria magnifica que significaba un avance significativo para la imagen de Napoleón en la cual pudo conquistar muchos corazones debido a esta extraordinaria batalla enmarcada por su valentía, inteligencia y habilidad en el campo de batalla, teniendo en cuenta la superioridad numérica del enemigo austriaco, Napoleón pudo motivar a los soldados a realizar una hazaña casi imposible en Lodi, es por esa razón que es tan recordada esta batalla y se nombra como una de las más importantes para la carrera militar y política de Napoleón

En el GamePlay

Debo aclarar que no soy un gran experto en las batallas, de hecho no he jugado mucho en este modo de juego, sin embargo pude obtener la victoria realizando varias maniobras bien marcadas que se pueden observar en el video.

En el video se puede apreciar un rio en el cual como en la historia era clave para obtener la victoria, sin embargo la artillería austriaca defendía esa posición, por lo tanto envié a toda mi artillería disponible bombardear la posición de la artillería austriaca para que esta no disparara contra la infantería.

Otra estrategia que utilicé, fácil de apreciar en el video fue la de enviar a la unidad más rápida disponible atacar la retaguardia del ejercito austriaco, que en momentos de la partida se veían ya desmoralizados, la caballería acabo totalmente con dos grandes escuadrones de infantería incluso el que se encontraba sobre una colina. En el mismo momento envié a la infantería hacia el pueblo y a repeler a los austriacos escondidos en los edificios.

Al avanzar en el pueblo pude rodear a la infantería enemiga con la caballería, realizando un ataque sorpresa mientras intentaban detener el avance de los soldados a pie, además tuve que enviar a los soldados a conquistar una catedral donde se escondían muchos soldados enemigos.

Ya con el centro del pueblo tomado, faltaba poder pasar por el puente, debido a que la artillería enemiga fue destrozada por el bombardeo de mis cañones solo me tenía que enfrentar la resistencia austriaca en un ataque directo con mi infantería y caballería combinada. Al derrotarlos en el puente solo quedaba alcanzar y emboscar al mariscal de campo Beaulieu, el cual finalmente cayó muerto y pude ganar la batalla.

Tengo que destacar que mi victoria fue ajustada, significa que pude mejorar la estrategia y la movilización de tropas, realmente no he jugado muchas batallas, espero mejorar al realizar más batallas históricas de Napoleón, síganme en esta campaña de batallas para ir recorriendo a través de un juego, parte de la historia de este gran emperador y extraordinario estratega.
