Today I want to talk to you about Cuban music, and what seems to be complex within it, to begin I want to clarify that nothing is difficult in life when you dedicate the time, attention and necessary practice, and Cuban music is not the exception to this rule.

Cuban music has its roots, in African music, like many other genres of the Caribbean and inclusive of African Americans.

Cuban music consists of a mix between African drum music, jazz, ballads, and in the case of timba a bit of funk, this great fusion results in what we know today as salsa, and what we know today as Cuban timba .

Why can the execution of some rhythms sound complex within these genres? It is due to the same fusion that is natural to this music.

Harmony has many elements of Jazz.

At a rhythmic level, the vast majority of the concepts are African. And in the case of timba, it is a mix between African (which will always predominate) and native funk.

At a melodic or vocal level, everything will depend a lot on the performer or the form of the song. There are very romantic salsa that have a more ballad feel, as there are other slightly more intense sauces that have a more dance or party sound.

It really is a fairly extensive topic and it appears to be complicated.

One of the main themes, after knowing the roots of music, is to understand the so-called KEY, for Cubans this is the number one and mandatory step to be able to play their music.

This is the key 3/2 and 2/3 are, and 3/2 and 2/3 rumba.

What is this? It is a rhythmic or stubborn pattern that determines in which way the instrumentation will be executed, both the percussion and the harmonic and even melodic accents.

This point is something that makes the rhythm particular, since depending on how the key was thought when arranging the song, in that way it will execute rhythmically, now ... there are different rhythms within salsa and la timba, many applied to the 3/2 key but also have their entry at 2/3, and on the contrary many natives at 2/3 who have their entry at 3/2 ..

This subject of the clave seems to be complicated, but it is simple mathematics, in the next post I will show you a little so that you can better understand the subject of the clave in Cuban music.

Hoy quiero hablarles sobre la música cubana, y lo que aparenta ser complejo dentro de ella, para comenzar quiero aclarar que nada es difícil en la vida cuando se le dedica el tiempo, la atención y la práctica necesaria, y la música cubana no es la excepción a esta regla.

La música cubana tiene su raíces, en la música africana, como muchos otros géneros del Caribe e inclusiva Afroamericanos.

La música cubana consta de una mezcla entre música de tambores africanos, jazz, balada, y en el caso de la timba un poco de funk, esta gran fusión da como resultado lo que hoy conocemos como salsa, y lo que hoy conocemos como timba cubana.

Por que puede sonar compleja la ejecución de algunos ritmos dentro de estos géneros? Se debe a la misma fusión que es natural de esta música.

La armonía tiene muchos elementos de Jazz.

A nivel rítmico, la gran mayoría de los conceptos son africanos. Y en el caso de la timba es una mezcla entre lo africano(Que siempre va a predominar) y el funk nativo.

A nivel melódico o vocal, todo va a depender mucho del intérprete o de la forma de la canción. Hay salsa muy románticas que llevan un sentir más de balada, como hay otras salsas un poco mas intensas que llevan un son mas de danza o de fiesta.

Realmente es un tema bastante extenso y que aparenta ser complicado.

Uno de los temas primordiales, luego de conocer las raíces de la música, es comprender la llamada CLAVE, para los cubanos este es el paso número uno y obligatorio para poder tocar su música.

Esta la clave 3/2 y 2/3 son, y 3/2 y 2/3 rumba.

Que es esto? Es un patrón rítmico u obstinado que determina en que forma se va a ejecutar las instrumentación, tanto la percusión como los acentos armónicos e incluso melódicos.

Este punto es algo que hace particular al ritmo, puesto que dependiendo de cómo se pensó la clave a la hora de arreglar el tema, de esa manera de va a ejecutar rítmicamente, ahora bien.. existen diversos ritmos dentro de la salsa y de la timba, muchos aplicados para clave 3/2 pero que también tienen su entrada a 2/3, y al contrario muchos nativos a 2/3 que tienen su entrada a 3/2..

Este tema de la clave aparenta ser complicado, pero es matemática simple, en el próximo post les mostraré un poco para que comprendan mejor el tema de la clave en la música cubana.
