It feels so good to participate in the community's weekly live performances.
For the past few days, I have been so busy with exams and work. I almost decided to skip performing this week. I didn't like the idea, but I decided to follow the flow of things.
Since I saw the week's theme, I've been trying to find a song that fits, 'The Sea' (Caribbean).
I searched online for songs about the sea and found a lot. However, it seemed like they were going to be too challenging.
The first song I settled for was 'Queen of the wave' by Barbie.
Barbie used to be a popular 4D cartoon that most young girls liked. I knew the rhythm of that Barbie, so all that was left was for me to score the lyrics which I started doing.
After the second day of me trying to score those lyrics, I thought to myself that I needed to find another song that was closely related to the sea. While searching on YouTube, I saw a YouTube short of a lady singing the first verse and chorus of 'Wellerman (Sea Shanty)'
Song by Nathan Evans',originally by the longest johns
Listening to the song for a while, I believe it fits the theme of The Sea.
In sea shanties, there's an alternating solo and chorus, and this song was originally sung by sailors while doing physical work together.
During the period 1719-1965, whaling was a big business in New Zealand.
The Wellarman refers to the real-life Weller Brothers, who were successful merchant traders in the area. Their employees were called The Wellarman.
It seems that according to the story, they were on the ship in order to locate a particular whale. In summary, it is about a wailing ship that can't come home because it searches for difficult prey.
In my video, I sang a part of the song and edited the ending part of the song. This is because I wasn't able to score the full lyrics and I hope that you enjoy listening to it.
The image was designed on canva.
The instrumentals was extracted through the Moises app.
The name of the ship was the Billy of Tea
The winds blew up, her bow dipped down
O blow, my bully boys, blow (Huh!)
Soon may the Wellerman come
To bring us sugar and tea and rum
One day, when the tonguin' is done
We'll take our leave and go
She'd not been two weeks from shore
When down on her, a right whale bore
The captain called all hands and swore
He'd take that whale in tow (Huh!)
Soon may the Wellerman come
To bring us sugar and tea and rum
One day, when the tonguin' is done
We'll take our leave and go
Da-da, da-da-da-da
Da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da
Da-da, da-da-da-da
Da-da-da-da-da-da
