Hello openmic family, it's been a hard time around us here in Nigeria as we approach the elections, we cant but hope for some light to shine soon uponour land and dispell the dark.
But as we continue to navigate through these uncertain times, music remains a source of comfort and hope for many of us. It's no wonder that the popular hymn "Light of the World" has resonated with people for decades, with its message of the power and love of the divine. Today, I am excited to share with you my guitar cover of this beloved song, as part of the 149th week of the Hive Open Mic.
"Light of the World" was originally written by Tim Hughes, a British songwriter and worship leader. The song was first released in 2004 and has since become a staple in churches around the world. The lyrics speak of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who came to earth to bring light to a dark and broken world. The chorus declares:
"You are the light of the world
You stepped down into darkness
Opened my eyes, let me see
Beauty that made this heart adore You
Hope of a life spent with You"
As a musician, I am drawn to the simple yet powerful chords and melody of this song. The verse and chorus use the same four chords - G, D, Em, and C - which creates a sense of familiarity and unity throughout the piece, tho I played with the C shaped chords with the capo on the 3rd fret. I also appreciate the way the chord changes mirror the rise and fall of the melody, creating a dynamic and engaging sound.
For my guitar cover, I used an acoustic guitar and strummed the chords in a rhythmic, slightly syncopated pattern, yeah. I wanted to emphasize the steady beat and the message of the song, while also adding my own personal touch to the arrangement. I also experimented with fingerpicking and arpeggiating the chords in certain sections, which added a bit of variation to the sound. This was one of the songs I used to learn to play the guitar.
Overall, I am pleased with how the guitar cover turned out. I hope that my rendition of "Light of the World" can bring some joy and inspiration to those who listen to it. In these challenging times, it's important to remember that we are not alone, and that there is always hope, even in the darkest of moments.
