HIVE MUSIC FESTIVAL Week 19 First Round (ENG-ESP): "Don't Turn Away!" (Original)

Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Zone Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town in South Africa! Welcome to Week 19 / Round 1 of the Hive Music Festival! I have only done original songs so far for the Hive Music Festival, and I still have one or two left, and so the Hive Music Festival is the place for me to keep on revealing them! So here comes another one!

The song I want to play for you this week is called “Don’t Turn Away”. It is something I wrote when I was much younger, and I have recently been reminding myself how to play it!

THEME: This is a song about having compassion for our fellow man, and doing your part to make the world a better place. The song basically says that if we all turn away from the problems in the world, then one day it will be too late… which was quite a sobering thing for me to write as a very young man.

The world can be a very harsh and unfair place, and it’s hard to keep caring about all of it without getting burnt out by it all, so a lot of us try to just be numb to all the pain in the world… but with that numbness you lose the good and beauty in the world too, as well as the good feeling of making a difference where you can…

PARTY TRICKS: Again I use my “patented” two-capo trick on guitar which allows for a kind of fake “Drop D” so that I can get more range out of the Dmaj chord! Why does nobody else do this? Don’t other guitarists like to cheat? Hahaha! Same with alternative tunings – there is a lot that we can do to create a more unique sound on an acoustic guitar.

Hola a todos en HIVE, y especialmente a la comunidad de Music Zone. ¡Mi nombre es Jasper y les escribo (y canto) desde Ciudad del Cabo en Sudáfrica! ¡Bienvenidos a la Semana 19 / Ronda 1 del Hive Music Festival! Hasta ahora solo he hecho canciones originales para el Hive Music Festival, y todavía me quedan una o dos, ¡así que el Hive Music Festival es el lugar para seguir revelándolas! Así que aquí viene otro!

La canción que quiero tocar para ustedes esta semana se llama "Don't Turn Away". Es algo que escribí cuando era mucho más joven, ¡y recientemente me he estado recordando cómo tocarlo!

TEMA: Esta es una canción sobre tener compasión por nuestro prójimo y hacer tu parte para hacer del mundo un lugar mejor. La canción básicamente dice que si todos nos alejamos de los problemas del mundo, entonces un día será demasiado tarde... lo cual fue algo bastante aleccionador para mí cuando era muy joven.

El mundo puede ser un lugar muy duro e injusto, y es difícil seguir preocupándose por todo sin quemarse, así que muchos de nosotros tratamos de ser insensibles a todo el dolor del mundo... pero con eso entumecimiento pierdes el bien y la belleza del mundo también, así como la buena sensación de marcar la diferencia donde puedes…

TRUCOS DE FIESTA: Una vez más, uso mi truco de dos cejillas "patentado" en la guitarra que permite una especie de "Drop D" falso para que pueda obtener más rango del acorde Dmaj. ¿Por qué nadie más hace esto? ¿A otros guitarristas no les gusta hacer trampa? ¡Jajaja! Lo mismo ocurre con las afinaciones alternativas: hay muchas cosas que podemos hacer para crear un sonido más exclusivo en una guitarra acústica.
