Retro Music week 3 / Cover "Hoochie Coochie Man (Muddy Waters)" by @jasperdick (ENG/ESP)

Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Music Community! My name is @jasperdick and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town, South Africa!

This is Week 3 of the “Retro Music” challenge! The aim of the game is to play a cover of anything from the 1920s to the 1990s, anything that would be considered a bit “Retro” in this day and age, which opens up a world of possibilities!

I had some music loving parents and grew up with a big music collection from the 1960’s to 1980’s. I then had a music loving big sister who got me into 1990’s music as I became a teenager myself… but for some reason, the “Retro Music” challenge makes me want to dig into songs that are just a little bit older than all this… at least for now!

How about some early blues? In particular a classic standard blues riff that I cannot imagine living without?

I want to play you “Hoochie Coochie Man”!

According to the Wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoochie_Coochie_Man), “Hoochie Coochie Man” was written by Willie Dixon, and then first recorded by Muddy Waters in 1954. It features such a recognisable riff that it is hard to imagine blues existing without it! Bo Diddley landed up using the same riff in “I’m a Man” (which Muddy Waters would often play himself anyway!)

In those days, a “Hoochie Coochie” dancer was similar to a Can-can dancer – pushing the limits of how provocative you could be! A Hoochie Coochie Man would have been a man with some significant sex appeal! The song mentions a “black cat bone”, “John the Conqueror Root” and a “Mojo”… these were all lucky charms that a superstitious man would have carried to give him extra sex appeal and better luck with the ladies! This song is a great example of what we might now call “SWAG” – hahaha!

¡Hola a todos en Hive y especialmente a la comunidad musical de Hive! ¡Mi nombre es @jasperdick y les escribo (y canto) desde Ciudad del Cabo, Sudáfrica!

¡Esta es la semana 3 del desafío "Música retro"! El objetivo del juego es jugar una versión de cualquier cosa, desde la década de 1920 hasta la década de 1990, cualquier cosa que se considere un poco "retro" en esta época, ¡lo que abre un mundo de posibilidades!

Tuve algunos padres amantes de la música y crecí con una gran colección de música de la década de 1960 a 1980. Luego tuve una hermana mayor amante de la música que me metió en la música de la década de 1990 cuando yo también me convertí en un adolescente... pero por alguna razón, el desafío "Retro Music" me hace querer profundizar en canciones que son un poco más antiguas que todo esto... ¡por ahora!

¿Qué tal un poco de blues temprano? En particular, ¿un riff de blues estándar clásico sin el que no puedo imaginar vivir?

Según la página de Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoochie_Coochie_Man), "Hoochie Coochie Man" fue escrita por Willie Dixon y luego grabada por primera vez por Muddy Waters en 1954. Presenta un riff tan reconocible que ¡Es difícil imaginar que el blues exista sin él! Bo Diddley aterrizó usando el mismo riff en "I'm a Man" (¡que Muddy Waters a menudo tocaba él mismo de todos modos!)

En aquellos días, un bailarín de "Hoochie Coochie" era similar a un bailarín de Can-can: ¡superando los límites de lo provocativo que podías ser! ¡Un Hoochie Coochie Man habría sido un hombre con un atractivo sexual significativo!
