Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from South Africa!
I am into the 18th week of this challenging series of posts I have set myself for Thursdays! BUT I Need your help to keep going please!
This is the challenge I'm setting myself every Thursday: I ask for cover song requests on the MUSIC community (make a comment on this post to take part by suggesting a song for me to try), and then I pick a favourite song to learn and post a live video of me attempting it. The person who asked for the winning song then gets 50% of the post rewards in HP! (If I pick a second song, that person gets 20% of the post rewards in HP as well!) It's as simple as that! (Well for everyone but me who then has to learn to sing and play new songs every week! Haha!)
I got lots of lovely requests this week! Thank you to everyone, and I'm sorry I couldn't do them all today, but I'm actually squeezing this into a work trip into the Karoo (why I don't have my mic with me this time)... Two people really proved that they love their song requests by asking for them a second week in a row... I appreciate that it means they really want to those two songs being tackled... so I chose those two songs and flipped a coin for the winner...
This week's winner is @wwwiebe! How do I pronounce that? It sounds a bit German! @wwwiebe is actually from Nevada in the USA, and asked for "State of Confusion" by the Kinks. It's a pity I don't have something to distort my guitar and rock this one out, but let's attempt an acoustic version! Here's the original:
Well done @wwwiebe! You get 50% of this post reward in HP!
What about the other person who repeated their request? That was @hannes-stoffel - who sounds German, but actually is German! This repeated request was for "Night Moves" by Bob Seger! What a fantastic song and video! Bob Seger has an amazing voice but very high pitched, and I could only take it down one semi-tone before the chord shapes would have to be transposed and it didn't really sound right anymore... so forgive me if I sound a bit squeaky on this one! Hahaha! Here's the original:
Well done @hannes-stoffel - you win 20% of this post reward in HP!
So now, for everybody else reading this, please take part! All you have to do is make a comment on this post with a suggestion for a cover song that you would like me to attempt next week. Give it a shot!!
Lyrics for "State of Confusion" by The Kinks
Woke up in a panic,
Like somebody fired a gun
I wish I could be dreaming,
But the nightmare's just begun.
There's flooding in the basement,
There's water all around.
There's woodworm in the attic
And the ceiling just fell down.
I'm in a state (state)
Of confusion (whooooh).
I'm in a state (state)
Of confusion (whooooh).
All the dirty dishes
Are still in the kitchen sink.
The tumble dryer's broken,
Now the telly's on the blink.
My girlfriend's packed her bags
And moved out to another town.
She couldn't stand the boredom
When the video broke down.
Don't know why I feel so bad.
Is it the weather, or am I going mad?
Don't know why I feel this way.
I don't know whether I'm coming or I'm going,
Can't cover up 'cause it's obviously showing.
It's a state (state)
Of confusion (whooooh).
We're in a state (state)
Of confusion (whooooh).
I don't know whether I'm coming or I'm going.
Should feel happy, should feel glad.
I'm alive and it can't be bad,
But back on planet Earth they shatter the illusion,
The world's going 'round in a state of confusion.
Standing on an island
In the middle of the road.
Traffic either side of me,
Which way will I go?
I should've stayed at home,
I should have never come outside.
Now I wish I never tried
To cross the other side.
I'm in a state (state)
State of confusion (whooooh).
It's a state (state)
Of confusion (whooooh).
Lyin' awake in a cold, cold sweat,
Am I overdrawn, am I going in debt?
It gets worse, the older that you get.
No escape from the state of confusion I'm in.
State of confusion I'm in.
Whooooh

Lyrics for "Night Moves" by Bob Seger
I was a little too tall, could've used a few pounds
Tight pants points, hardly renowned
She was a black-haired beauty with big dark eyes
And points of her own, sittin' way up high
Way up firm and high
Out past the cornfields where the woods got heavy
Out in the back seat of my '60 Chevy
Workin' on mysteries without any clues
Workin' on our night moves
Tryin' to make some front page drive-in news
Workin' on our night moves
In the summertime
Umm, in the sweet summertime
We weren't in love, oh no, far from it
We weren't searchin' for some pie in the sky summit
We were just young and restless and bored
Livin' by the sword
And we'd steal away every chance we could
To the backroom, to the alley or the trusty woods
I used her, she used me but neither one cared
We were gettin' our share
Workin' on our night moves
Tryin' to lose the awkward teenage blues
Workin' on our night moves
Mmm, and it was summertime
Mmm, sweet, summertime, summertime
Oh, wonderin'
Felt the lightning, yeah
And I waited on the thunder
Waited on the thunder
I woke last night to the sound of thunder
How far off I sat and wondered?
Started hummin' a song from 1962
Ain't it funny how the night moves?
When you just don't seem to have as much to lose
Strange how the night moves
With autumn closin' in
Mmm, night moves, mmm
(Night moves) night moves
(Night moves) yeah
(Night moves) I remember
(Night moves) ah, I sure remember the night moves
(Night moves) ain't it funny how you remember?
(Night moves) funny how you remember
(Night moves) I remember, I remember, I remember, I remember
(Night moves) oh, oh, oh
we were workin', workin' and practicin'
(Night moves) workin' and practicin'
(Night moves) oh, on the night moves, night moves
(Night moves) oh
(Night moves) I remember, yeah, yeah, yeah, I remember
(Night moves) ooh
(Night moves) I remember, Lord I remember, Lord I remember
(Night moves) ha, ha, ooh-hoo
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah
Uh huh, uh huh
I remember, I remember
