HIVE MUSIC FESTIVAL Week 17 Second Round (ENG-ESP): "Stay Away Woman!" (Original)

Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Zone Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town in South Africa! Forgive me for the setting! Another busy week where I spent most of the week on a work road trip, and so had to show face at the office today! So, I recorded from the back of my car in the office parking. The electricity was off because of rolling blackouts affecting the office suburb, so I had to open the car door to create light so you could see me! Just as well because it is very hot today! Hahaha!

Welcome to Week 17 / Round 2 of the Hive Music Festival! I have only done original songs so far for the Hive Music Festival, and as long as I still have some original songs left in the bag, then the Hive Music Festival is the place for me to keep on revealing them! So here comes another one!

The song I want to play for you this week is called “Stay Away Woman”. The back-story to this song is that when I was still a young student and quite new to writing songs, I was lucky enough to attend a weekend guitar workshop hosted by two of South Africa’s best acoustic guitarists. When I was there, I met a 19-year old girl. We got to chatting, playing Bob Dylan songs, and hearing each other’s first stabs at song-writing. I told her about my then-girlfriend, now-wife @juliadick, who was working on a cruise-ship but was soon to come home for good, and I learnt she had a boyfriend of her own. I thought everything was above board and that we were just musical friends…

A couple of weeks later she sent me song lyrics to a new song, clearly a love song… and clearly about me. Apparently her boyfriend found out about this song because she was crazy enough to play it for him. Apparently, he was actually her fiancé already and not just a boyfriend… what a mess! I had to end that friendship… she sounded a bit crazy!

I was sad to lose a musical song-writing friend… but I soon landed up making a lot more musical friends as I was helping on the committee of the Barleycorn Music Club, which puts on little gigs to promote local music in Cape Town. So all-in-all, not the end of the world!

But it did lead to me writing this song… I hope you enjoy it! Thank you very much for watching! I look forward to seeing your entries and hope to see you again next week!

Hola a todos en HIVE, y especialmente a la comunidad de Music Zone. ¡Mi nombre es Jasper y les escribo (y canto) desde Ciudad del Cabo en Sudáfrica! ¡Perdóname por la ambientación! ¡Otra semana ocupada en la que pasé la mayor parte de la semana en un viaje de trabajo por carretera, por lo que tuve que mostrar mi cara en la oficina hoy! Entonces, grabé desde la parte trasera de mi auto en el estacionamiento de la oficina. No había electricidad debido a los apagones continuos que afectaban el suburbio de oficinas, ¡así que tuve que abrir la puerta del automóvil para crear luz para que pudieran verme! ¡Menos mal que hoy hace mucho calor! ¡Jajaja!

¡Bienvenidos a la Semana 17 / Ronda 2 del Hive Music Festival! Hasta ahora solo he hecho canciones originales para el Hive Music Festival, y mientras me queden algunas canciones originales en la bolsa, ¡entonces el Hive Music Festival es el lugar para seguir revelándolas! Así que aquí viene otro!

La canción que quiero tocar para ti esta semana se llama “Stay Away Woman”. La historia de fondo de esta canción es que cuando todavía era un joven estudiante y bastante nuevo en escribir canciones, tuve la suerte de asistir a un taller de guitarra de fin de semana organizado por dos de los mejores guitarristas acústicos de Sudáfrica. Cuando estuve allí, conocí a una chica de 19 años. Empezamos a conversar, tocar canciones de Bob Dylan y escuchar los primeros intentos de cada uno de escribir canciones. Le conté sobre mi entonces novia, ahora esposa @juliadick, que estaba trabajando en un crucero pero pronto volvería a casa para siempre, y me enteré de que ella tenía novio. Pensé que todo estaba bien y que solo éramos amigos musicales...

Un par de semanas después me envió la letra de una nueva canción, claramente una canción de amor... y claramente sobre mí. Aparentemente, su novio se enteró de esta canción porque ella estaba lo suficientemente loca como para tocarla para él. Aparentemente, en realidad ya era su prometido y no solo un novio... ¡qué lío! Tuve que terminar esa amistad… ¡sonaba un poco loca!

Me entristeció perder a un amigo compositor de canciones... pero pronto acabé haciendo muchos más amigos musicales mientras ayudaba en el comité del Barleycorn Music Club, que organiza pequeños conciertos para promover la música local en Ciudad del Cabo. Así que, en general, ¡no es el fin del mundo!

Pero me llevó a escribir esta canción… ¡Espero que la disfruten! ¡Muchas gracias por mirar! ¡Espero ver tus entradas y espero verte de nuevo la próxima semana!
