Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town, South Africa.
This is my 14th week contributing to "Three Tunes Tuesday", started by @ablaze. It is week 79 overall!
I am trying to stick to a set pattern, where I perform 2 cover songs (written by famous artists) and 1 original song (written by me) around a theme. This week I've chosen the theme of Anti-War Protest Songs - a return to the theme I started with over three months ago!
For the first cover song I'm going to start with "For What it's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield, released in 1966 and very famously associated with protests against the Vietnam War. It is a very simple song, but with beautiful very recognisable harmonics in the verse and a chorus everyone seems to remember!
Here is the original song on Youtube:
Next up is something even more classic! "Where have all the flowers gone?" by Pete Seeger in 1955! Apparently Pete Seeger only wrote the first three verse, and somebody else came along about 5 years later to write some more to make it a circular song - ie. flowers gone to young girls... gone to young men... gone to soldiers... gone to graveyards... gone to flowers (to get back to the beginning again.)
Here is Pete Seeger singing it on Youtube:
And finally it is time for my original song: "Love Letter in Time of War" which tells the story from the perspective of a young soldier who's been taken away from his soulmate to fight in a war he doesn't see the point of...
**Before I go: Please look out for my weekly cover request post on Thursday! If you make a song request in the comments, and then I attempt the song, you get rewarded with 50% of that post's rewards in HP! Please have a think about what song you would like me to tackle for you?
**Lyrics for "Love Letter in Time of War" by @jasperdick (original)
In the morning, it was in your eye
Your love, I was the luckiest guy
In the sunshine, it was in your song
It was your love, when nothing was wrong
But the war came, and I had to go
Go fight for reasons that I do not know
In the evening, it was in your kiss,
Your love, like Heavenly bliss
In the nighttime, it was in your touch
It was your love, I miss you so much
'Coz the war came, and I had to go
Go fight for reasons that I do not know... I do not know...
Well it's cold out here, I'm pretty scared too
'Coz I'm no hero, I'm just missing you...
You know I'd fight for you, kill for you, die for you, but not for them...
So I'll just stay alive, until I see you again...
And you know one day I'll see you again
Yes one day I'll see you again... oh...
In the morning, it will be in my eye
My love, the happiest guy
In the evening, it will be in our kiss
Our love, like Heavenly bliss
... with all my love... (signing letter)
