HIVE MUSIC FESTIVAL Week 12 Third Round (ENG-ESP): "You are the Rain" (Original)

Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town, South Africa!

Welcome to Week 12 / Round 3 of the Hive Music Festival! In weeks 1 to 3 I did some of my softer, more finger-picking, style of original songs. In weeks 4-6 I raised the tempo a bit and started strumming on some more original songs. In weeks 7-9, I picked some original songs that would allow me to rock out as hard as my acoustic guitar allows, and I also showed how I like to play alternative tunings like “DADGAD”.

For weeks 10-12, I would like to challenge myself and base the three original songs I will be singing you on my loop pedal device. It is the pink one at my feet and it’s something I’m just starting to learn how to use and bring into live performance! It allows me to record a few seconds of music, and then plays that music back, to allow me to play or even record more layers over it. It is the closest I can feel to being a band on my own, to allow me to fill out a song!

The black pedal can increase volume or provide distortion to allow my acoustic guitar to sound closer to an electric one. The blue pedal takes things down an octave to make my guitar sound closer to a bass guitar!

The first song I ever played in public with the loop pedal was “Save Me with Music”, with the help of my friend @clairemobey in our collaborative duo called MobeyDick. “Save Me with Music” was the song I played for you last week for week 11. A couple of weeks ago, Claire and I made use of the loop pedal in a more simple way at a gig when we added “Mamela” to our set, which is the song I sang for you in Week 10.

Honestly, I hadn’t really tried using the loop pedal on any other of my original songs, so I thought I would have a think about which one I would like to try. One of the things that has often impressed me when watching other loop pedal artists is when they take the loop away, and then bring it back… So, I thought why not try that on an original song of mine where there’s a small section with a different structure to the main looping verse?

So, I picked my original song called “You are the Rain”. In some parts of South Africa, it might not rain all year, and rain is seen as a huge blessing that can turn a semi-desert into fields of wild-flowers and potentially give some grazing to farmer’s animals! In this song, I compare the desperation for it to rain with missing a special person who can “quench the drought” when they finally come home to you!

Hola a todos en HIVE, y especialmente a la Comunidad Musical. Me llamo Jasper y os escribo (y canto) desde Ciudad del Cabo, Sudáfrica.

¡Bienvenidos a la Semana 12 / Ronda 3 del Festival de Música Hive! En las semanas 1 a 3 hice algunas de mis canciones originales más suaves, más finger-picking. En las semanas 4-6 subí un poco el tempo y empecé a rasguear en algunas canciones más originales. En las semanas 7-9, elegí algunas canciones originales que me permitieran rockear tan fuerte como me permitiera mi guitarra acústica, y también mostré cómo me gusta tocar afinaciones alternativas como "DADGAD".

Para las semanas 10-12, me gustaría retarme a mí mismo y basar las tres canciones originales que os cantaré en mi dispositivo de pedal de bucle.
