Hello brothers and sisters, we are Indonesia Bersatu, a punk rock band from Medan, and are back at the 119th weekly #openmic event. This week's theme is "prejudice" which was chosen by our great friend, @lisbeth26. This is a very interesting theme.
Prejudice means deciding before knowing the relevant facts about the object. Usually, people who give prejudiced will judge someone negatively from race, religion, ethnicity, to the way they dress. We are often victims of prejudice when we are still on the streets.
As poor children, the streets gave us life. On the streets, we can meet people who are the same as us. From the streets, we learn a lot about life. The streets are not only a place to hang out with friends, but the streets are also a place to survive many challenges. From the streets, we are trained to be strong, tough, and brave.
However, living on the streets creates a lot of negative prejudice against us. People will think of us as useless scum of society and just an eyesore. Naturally, because our clothes and faces look dirty due to a lot of dust stuck in the streets.
But, do people who are prejudiced against us behave better than us? Is their physical appearance a crime? Therefore, this experience that we have had in the past has become a valuable lesson for us not to have bad thoughts about anything.
From this prejudice theme, we performed a cover song from a band from Tasikmalaya, West Java, namely "Desa Lukanegara". This band is one of Indonesia's Legendary Punk. Their songs have been heard a lot in Southeast Asia. One of their famous songs is the song we sing today called "Jalanan Adalah Sekolah" In English, "The street is school".
Indonesian song lyrics;
"Banyak orang bicara semaunya tentang cara hidup kita
Tak perduli apa kata mereka
Yang penting bisa berkarya dan terus
Berkarya tuk hidupkan dunia, dengan seni dan peran budaya
Bergerak berontak itu biasa karna keadilan tak ada
Jangan lihat kami sebelah mata
Jangan lihat kami sebelah mata
Bagi kami kreasi bukan tradisi melainkan harta yang tak terbeli
Dan bagi kami jalanan adalah sekolah tapi ingat jangan anggap kami sampah"
Song lyrics in English;
"Many people talk their way about our way of life
Don't care what they say
The important thing is to be able to work and continue
Work to bring the world to life, with art and culture
Rebellion is normal because justice doesn't exist
Don't look us in the eye
Remembering all the things you said
About us and the streets
Don't think of it as an escape because here we grow and continue
Work to bring the world to life, with art and culture
Rebellion is normal because justice doesn't exist
Don't look us in the eye
For us, creation is not a tradition but a treasure that cannot be bought
And for us, the street is a school but remember don't think of us as trash"
The song we played was recorded using a Cannon camera. However, the video display from the camera is so dark. Because we recorded this video at night. The light in the room where we played it was too dim, so I had to brighten it up through video editing software called Adobe Premiere Pro CC. I have also edited the sound in this video using Adobe Audition CC software so that the sound can be heard clearly.
That's all we can say, below we also provide a youtube video link of their original song. Hope you like it and thank you. Peace to all of us.
