Besides Freediving, I have explored the world of Latin Dancing this epic year of 2021. From graduating on my Bachata Level 1 last June 2021, now to attending Bachata Level 3 and Kizomba Level 1 dance classes, I can say I'm more confident in sharing my dance videos here in Hive.

If you were wondering why I decided to learn latin dances... Well, I see Bachata and Kizomba as a therapy for my self esteem and confidence in terms of feminine power and sensuality. Yes, this is true and I'm now more open in talking about it. Also these type of dancing requires partner work which was a huge challenge for me since its hard for me to put my trust on male partners.

Reflecting on my dance journey, the two challenging lessons I have encountered were (1) Letting go and (2) Connection.

Letting Go - I am a control freak. As much as possible, things should always go according to my plans. I'm always up in my head meaning a lot of of things play in the back of my mind and latin dancing or any other dancing will really push you to let go and surrender to the music, to the beat, and to your feelings. So once on the dance floor, you should leave everything behind.

But although this is the ideal situation, I am still in the process of learning so I try to make sure I get all the steps or moves correctly. Again, my logical brain working. My dance teacher would always remind me to relax and to let go most of the time.

Connection - As I mentioned, I have a hard time putting my trust in male species. So the partner work during our dance practice have help me overcome that. But I used to have a hard time connecting with my partners; as a result I end up doing a back lead (doing the moves ahead of your partner) which I should refrain from doing. In partner work, as my teacher always say "Males lead, Females follow." The irony of this in real life though. haha. But on a serious note, this is what is normal during Latin Dancing.

Over the course of four months and constant dancing, I have been feeling more comfortable with dancing with our male leads from our dance studio. I'm also grateful that I have finally come to a point where I trust them fully.

Above is our Day 5 for Bachata Level 3 where our dance teacher Mich taught us Lady styling.
