The word Barlovento refers to the place where the wind comes from with respect to a certain point or place: barlovento is the opposite of sotavento.

But this time we refer to Barlovento, a region located in the State of Miranda. A warm land of beaches, rivers and mountains, of Afro-Venezuelan drums.

The Caracas composer Eduardo Serrano wrote this song in 1941 and it was only 2 years later that he got to know this land of fire and drums. Nobody could believe that he described in such a special way this land of the Barloventeña without ever having visited it, only by references that reached his ears.

Unfortunately I did not get information about which artist was the first to record this merengue, however everything indicates that it could have been Rafael Montaño between the years 50-60 since Barlovento is included in his album Alma Llanera and the record label that edited it was ERNA and it only lasted for a short period of time.

    Barlovento

Barlovento, Barlovento land of fire and drums
land of the fulias and fine black women
that carry their tight waists to the sound of the
to the sound of the curbeta and the taquiti taqui of the mine.
Tasty that moves the body of the barloventeña when she walks
tasty that sounds the taquiti taqui taqui taquisobre the mine
