As you might have guessed, being a homesteader also means lots of prepping. Prepping has become a huge passion of mine and lucky for me this old farmhouse came with a root cellar. The shelving was all set and intact besides some minor repairs and lots of cleanup work. I don’t know about you but I’m not into mouse poop and spiders all up in my storage lol
One thing I want to work on next for this root cellar is to earthquake proof the shelves. Besides that I just need to start stocking them. These shelves will be for my long term storage as it’s a cool, dark and dry place.
It will store my large gama buckets filled with grains and other long term food supplies. My mid-storage of jams and jellies which I started to make. I have to say I’m loving dandelion jelly! If you ever wanted to learn how to make dandelion jelly here’s the recipe. How to make dandelion Jelly It’s perfect as a topper for toast, cheese and crackers!
I’ll also be working on adding pickling foods to these front few shelves as it’s now pickling season! I did a podcast episode on it here Preserving Food | It’s Pickling Season!
I’m excited now that we are getting into spring here. That long winter I was ill prepared as the homestead I bought was a mess and needed some serious TLC before anything else. In my next video I’m going to introduce you to a new animal I introduced to the homestead! Stay happy and Stay healthy friends!
