    Este grupo de pescadores de la ciudad de Alicante (la imagen es de los años 40 del siglo pasado) sostiene varias "sarandas" hechas de esparto. Estas cestas servían para sacar el pescado de las barcas. En ellas portaban el pescado que venderían por las calles de la capital alicantina.
    Desde que en 2002 Mª Teresa Miñana descubriera el esparto como materia de expresión artística, no ha dejado de trabajarlo.


    This group of fishermen from the city of Alicante (the image is from the 40s of the last century) holds several "sarandas" made of esparto grass. These baskets were used to take the fish out of the boats. In them they carried the fish that they would sell in the streets of the capital of Alicante.
    Since Mª Teresa Miñana discovered esparto grass as a material for artistic expression in 2002, she has not stopped working with it.

    Para elaborar la saranda se empleaba esparto y la técnica del tejido triangular. El mismo que la artista ha adaptado a varios de sus diseños.


    To make the saranda they used esparto grass and the triangular weaving technique. The same that the artist has adapted to several of her designs.

    Fascinada por esta materia prima natural Mª Teresa Miñana dice encontrar inspiración en el mundo femenino y en el mar, en toda su extensión.


    Fascinated by this natural raw material, Mª Teresa Miñana says she finds inspiration in the feminine world and in the sea, in all its extension.

    Las mujeres trabajaron mucho el esparto, pero eran los hombres los que tenían los oficios. Eran ellos los alpargateros, cordeleros, sarieros, etc. Hubo alguna excepción pero por regla general era así.


    Women worked a lot with esparto grass, but it was the men who had the trades. They were the espadrille-makers, rope-makers, sergers, etc. There were some exceptions, but as a general rule it was like this.

    La relación más directa entre la cestería, el mar y la mujer, se encontraba en la confección y reparación de las redes.


    The most direct relationship between basketry, the sea and women was in the making and repairing of nets.
