Adapting designs and styles of yesteryear to create new objects is one of Maria Teresa Miñana's motivations, as well as recovering the tradition of basket-making practised by the gypsies of the Alicante area, in the Valencian Community (Spain).
The mixture of esparto grass and cane was typical of the gypsies who frequented these latitudes. For them it was much easier to find cane. Nowadays it is easier to find objects made with a mixture of esparto grass and wicker, but the gypsy tradition was with cane, as the artist shows us.
