    Podcast: Stoic Action:

Thales of Miletus in the ditch

There is a story or rather an anecdote about Thales of Miletus that is interesting. Although it lacks historical credibility, this story that has transcended in time reveals an interesting reflection about him. It is said that Thales was once taking a walk, reflecting and looking at the sky. He was so absorbed in his thoughts that he fell into a ditch and a Thracian slave girl, we do not know if she was his slave girl or if she was a slave girl walking around, mocked him and between laughter said something like:

"This one who claims to know everything about heaven, forgets how to walk on his feet. ".

Beyond wondering whether this really happened or not, it is valid to stop and reflect on disciplines such as philosophy that tend to lead reflections that seem far from everyday life. But, on the other hand, in the realm of knowledge it could be said that Thales had emerged from the ditch in ignorance into which the slave and most had fallen.

I hope you found this podcast episode interesting. See you in a future edition.
