For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

Jesus Christ suffered for us and He leave us this as an example which we have to follow. Which means as Christians, we should be ready to deny ourselves some things. Jesus Christ came to the world in flesh to show us how to live our lives.
