I will also start some hive-games related giveaways once per week as long as I can fill up that wheel with interesting stuff, so stay around!

One again a chaos legion card was chosen for the challenge and a really good one on top - indeed.
This card can be treated as the replacement for the out-of-print Wood Nymph from the old rewards series, although the general stats have been altered with quite significantly.

Last time I mentioned how water splinter used to be the magic cheese with Alric as summoner and full magic lineups, but with Alric beeing scarce and a new magic buff summoner named Obsidian beeing readily available, we see a lot of magic cheese lineups in the earth splinter these days which fits that high damage healer pretty well.

    Stats

Here's the stat-sheet on the chubby goblin. Starting from level 1 it's already a pretty strong card with 2 magic damage and the heal ability which get's balanced by a 6 mana cost and only 3 hitpoints. Contrary to most other cards the low speed of 1 is very beneficial for a healer, as the heal is less likely to be wasted when your monster have not taken damage early in the round.

At higher levels the card becomes a little bit more tanky, which is definitely helping against snipe and opportunity, but the most significant level-ups include incredibly usefull abilities like affliction, which is the counter to the card itself, and silence which is also a very strong and valuable counter against the current earth meta.

At a moderate .25$ a piece, it seems like a pretty reasonable purchase right now. Beeing part of the starter deck makes it a little less interesting though, unless you can afford the summoners for a higher level card.

    Ruleset

To show you how strong this card actually is, I decided to take a different approach and chose a failed attempt at countering it with an anti magic combo.
Keep in mind that the equalizer rule is somewhat of a soft counter to magic reflect.

    Lineup

The perfect way to stop the magic cheese is to beat it at it's own game. At least that's what I thought when I chose Owster Rotwell as my summoner.

To inflict additional pain, the Bone Golem with the magic shield is the perfect frontline in this case. Also benefits quite a lot from the equalizer ruleset.
Generally a risky choice, as it is pretty much the weakest of all starter tanks with its low speed and only 6 HP. Even if it workds kinda well against magic, the chance of missing faster tanks like the Unicorn Mustang or Serpent of Eld is pretty high. Even Living Lava is a strong counter with the shield ability.

Maybe not the best choice in this match, but the Haunted Spirit's heal synergizes pretty well with the equalizer. It's also quite interesting to whip out some of the older cards from time to time and see how they do in the current meta...

Silent Sha-Vi is one of the stable cards in the new starter deck. It's not as good as the fire counterpart but played a lot when Tarsa is on time-out.
The idea is to take out the Goblin Psychic to stop the healing, but with equalizer rulesets the plan is not working as intended. Generally also pretty risky with cards like Regal Peryton that can soak up plenty of sneak and snipe attacks.

Gargoya Devil is one of the cards that don't look very appealing but get played regularly because it beneftis a lot from 99 mana and equalizer rulesets in particular. At least on my accounts that don't have plenty of high mana cards to choose from. The flying ability is kinda useless against magic teams but it can attack from front position while serving as a tank, if shit hits the fan.
The equalizer gave it a whopping 7 additional hitpoints, which would have been crazy good against most other matchups, but there is no chance of dodging against magic.

3 damage helps when you need to cut through a lot of HP and it's guaranteed to hit the Unicorn Mustang and Regal Peryton, which is critical against cards that get a big heal every round.

Another attempt to match the damage from the Obsidian buff. And maybe a little bit of nostalgia.

    Matches

The first match shows how bots sometimes mess up the broken earth combo in certain rulesets. Even the powerfull Goblin Psychic can't keep your tanks alive if you don't spread out the damage.

Here is the match that shows how even magic counters might not stand a chance against the powerfull earth meta. This time I get messed up pretty bad, even though I played a magic counter. The value of heal scales incredibly well with HP and in equalizer games you can expect to have plenty of that.

And last some 1 on 1 with the Wood Nymph. The most obvious advantage of the Wood Nymph is the lower mana cost. Not only does it enable her to be played in little league rulesets, it also allows you to play an addidional 2 mana card, which results in more damage and hitpoints. On the flipside she is not very useful when magic shields come into play, especially when combined with silence.

Overall I'm a big fan of the Goblin Psychic and hate playing against it. Especially in bronze and silver league the healing ability is incredibly strong with the lack of proper countermeasures like affliction, which is only available through leveled up or rather expensive cards.
