Hello to all my fellow splinterpeeps and a big thank you for stopping by! Today it's time again for the weekly splinterlands challenge, hosted by the awesome team behind @splinterlands. No matter if you are an artist, social media influencer or just enjoy playing the game, they host all kinds of challenges here on hive, which give you a chance to get a nice curation from the community. Make sure to check them out and start earning on the hive blockchain!

In this weekly challenge we have to make use of the new Lava Spider card from the latest Chaos Legion booster series. This card can be treated as the replacement for the out-of-print Fire Beetle from the alpha/beta series, as it features exactly the same stats. Originally the card came with 2 attack, but got nerfed to 1 damage right before release, as it would have been a bronze stomper with Yodin Zaku.

If you are a new player - or for some reason limited to the starter cards that come with the spellbook - and faced the daily snipe quest already, you might have realized that there aren't many snipe cards to your disposal. In fact the starter deck contains one single snipe card for every splinter, except the dragon one, which has no monsters at all.

    Stats

Here's the stat-sheet on the little spider. For most of us it will just be a 1 attack sniper with a decent amount of hp. Nothing fancy.
At higher levels it starts to counter flying type cards, which is nice against annoying high speed monsters like the Spark Pixies, or Regal Peryton, I reckon.

    Ruleset

As the Lava Spider's snipe ability perfectly fits todays snipe quest, I decided to challenge myself even more and do my entire daily quest with the lava spider. It took me over half an hour but it was fun recording a video for you!

Let's look at the final battle, which was my most favorite one. It had the following ruleset:

    Lineup

The summoner of choice, like all fire games, was Tarsa. Pyre would allow me to play higher level monsters, but I found the stats buffs from Tarsa way better than those I'd gain from higher level cards, so I'd rather delegate him.

Living Lava is pretty much the meta tank in the fire splinter and has been for quite a while now. It is vulnerable to magic damage, but most of the alternative fire tanks do not have an edge on it.

Fineas Rage: The perfect backline tank with the reach ability. If Lava goes down, there's another 5 speed tank to protect your backline. As it's not in the new starter deck, Radiated Brute would be the alternative here.

Tenyii Striker is one of the new cards that is now pretty much a stable in every fire game. Well rounded stats with 3 attack from the summoner buff and 6 HP, which makes it pretty tanky, too.
    Definitely 5 mana well invested.

The Serpentine Spy has also been a stable in pretty much every fire team since I started playing the game.
Hits fast, hits hard and hits the MVPs, ideally.

Here is the star of todays match. Not because it did well, but because it is the protagonist in our challenge and we needed to carry his lava-spewing butt through the snipe quest somehow.
Unfortunately I did not get the most fitting matches for this card to do it justice. With 3 mana and 5 HP, it would be much more useful in something like a little league match.
The Zaku owners do love this card, as it synergizes really well with the blast and ranged boost, but sadly I do not own said card. Yet.

The hidden MVP in the background. I expected some sneak attacks from my opponent and wanted to protect my backline with some shield. Turned out to be the perfect decision, as I faced not only one but two sneak cards. They stood no chance against the buff serpent with the pointy stick.

The game ended in an easy win and a finished quest, which awarded my efforts with a nice rare reward card. I'm looking forward to the next weekly challenge and hope to see you guys again!
