The fruit comes in a variety of colours and shapes, similar to grapes. One of the most common, crimson jaboticaba (which is actually more of a violet tint), has a blueberry yoghurt flavour. White jaboticabas have a sour lychee flavour, whereas Grimal jaboticabas have a grape candy flavour. However, this is only a tiny sample.
Jaboticaba juice has powerful antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging properties that have been shown to benefit skin health, lung strength, digestion, cancer prevention, and general wellness. Apart from that, it helps with asthma, heart health, and type 2 diabetes.
Although fruiting occurs all year, the best yields come in late March and April, when each mature tree produces hundreds of fruits. In fact, a mature tree may produce up to 100 pounds of fruit every season. However, bear in mind that jaboticaba fruit trees might take up to eight years to bear fruit.
The perfume of jabuticaba is varied and difficult to describe, but it walks a delicate line between citrus sour and sweet without being overpowering, with a circular sensation in the nose that recalls that of the most succulent and plump fruits, but without being as aquatic.
