In times of elections, politicians are shown as meek lambs and ... in the end they turn out to be baquiros
¡¡Hello my people Hive!!
The Venezuelan economic and social reality deteriorates more every day, but it is evident that these two realities are the result and the consequence of political reality. The song that I want to present today is titled "Miguel y su báquiro" whose lyrics are based on the poetry of the Venezuelan Aquiles Nazoa (1920-1976). Before commenting on this song, I must clarify that any resemblance to our reality is pure coincidence.
The song "Miguel y su báquiro" is based on a very popular melodic line - anonymous and unpublished - in a Venezuelan merengue rhythm whose music I always heard my mother sing when politics was the matter. The lyrics are based on the homonymous poem "Miguel y su báquiro" by the poet Nazoa, whose sarcasm and satire came to reflect the political reality of times before ours. Aquiles Nazoa González was a Venezuelan writer, essayist, journalist, poet and comedian. Most of the works of this distinguished poet express the values of Venezuelan popular culture ; this song is a true reflection of it.
Here is one of the few versions of this song that exist. It is the Cantaclaro Quintet with music by René Rójas and musical arrangement by Federico Ruiz.
As you can see, in the lyrics of this song there is evidence of the excessive use of esdrújulas words (accented in the third to last syllable). This very particular way always characterized the teacher Nazoa that, with this it achieves a special type of harmonic rhythm in this type of versification. On the other hand, the humor and sarcasm in Nazoa's poetry is evident due to the way this poem ends, in it she portrays the idiosyncrasy of some characters in Venezuelan politics of that time who, like today, maintain an attitude ungrateful and rude towards the people.
Finally, I hope with this to contribute, a little more, to the knowledge of our music, its styles, its interpreters and the appreciation of the significant contribution of each one of our cultivators, musicians, composers and interpreters to the cultural heritage -musical as it is and will always be the work of the poet Aquilez Nazoa, who knew how to reflect the voice of the Venezuelan people. And ... remember: any resemblance to our current Venezuelan reality is purely coincidental.
