Well, it is also true that this well-known song has ever generated a certain curiosity to know Why is the cat in the dark is sad and blue? This song was written, originally in Italian, by the Neapolitan Gaetano "Totó" Savio and the music was conceived by the Florentine Giancarlo Bigazzi. Pues también es verdad que, esa conocida canción, alguna vez nos ha generado cierta curiosidad de saber ¿por qué el gato que está en la oscuridad está triste y azul? Esta canción fue escrita, originalmente en italiano, por el napolitano Gaetano "‘Totó" Savio y la música la concibió el florentino Giancarlo Bigazzi. La canción se conocía como "Un gatto nel blu" cuya traducción podría ser algo así como “Un gato en el azul” y fue compuesta especialmente para que Roberto Carlos participara en el Festival de San Remo - Italia 1972, en donde era la favorita del público; aún así no ganó.

With respect to the original theme of this song, which was written in Italian, Roberto Carlos himself has expressed, on more than one occasion: "this song has given me many joys because it had a great success when I recorded it in Spanish. In Portuguese I could not do the version, because in reality I could not understand what the song really said. That is why I could not translate the song from Italian to Portuguese But, Buddy and Mary McCluskey did the Spanish version and ... I then recorded the song in Spanish ... but I mean, I still can't understand the lyrics of this song in Spanish. , I have never seen a blue cat ... and much less in the sky ... " . The title they gave to the Spanish version was "El gato azul" so that it would have a better rhyme, however, the public began to call it "A cat in the dark" , as we all know it today.

Con respecto al tema original de esta canción que fue escrita en italiano, el propio Roberto Carlos, ha expresado, en más de una ocasión: "esta canción me ha dado muchas alegrías porque tuvo un gran éxito cuando la he grabado en español. En portugués yo no conseguí hacer la versión, porque en realidad no conseguía entender lo que decía, realmente, la canción. Por eso no pude traducir la canción del italiano para el portugués. Pero, Buddy y Mary McCluskey hicieron la versión para el español y... yo, entonces, grabé la canción en español...pero quiero decir que, todavía no consigo entender la letra de esta canción en español. Por que en verdad, Yo nunca he visto un gato azul... y mucho menos en el cielo...". El título que le dieron a la versión en español fue el de "El gato azul" para que tuviera una mejor rima, sin embargo, el público empezó a llamarla "Un gato en la oscuridad", tal como la conocemos hoy todos nosotros.
