The Brazilian Choro or Choriño, as it is also popularly known, is one of the musical genres of Brazil that has spread the most in the world. This music is believed to be the direct predecessor of samba and, above all, of bosanova. In Venezuela, the introduction of this type of music is of recent date and this happened thanks to the initiative of a Venezuelan musical group known as Grupo Curare, of which I was the founder playing the Mandolin. Other musicians who accompanied me in that company were: Alfonzo Moreno on the Venezuelan Cuatro, Eliseo Castro on the Guitar and Héctor Araguainamo on the Double Bass.

El Choro brasilero o Choriño, como popularmente también se conoce, es uno de los géneros musicales del Brasil que más se ha difundido en el mundo. Se cree que esta música es la antecesora directa de la samba y, sobre todo, de la bosanova. En Venezuela, la introducción de este tipo de música es de data reciente y esto ocurrió gracias a la iniciativa de un grupo musical venezolano conocido como Grupo Curare, del cual yo fui fundador ejecutando la Mandolina. Otros músicos que me acompañaron en esa empresa fueron: Alfonzo Moreno en el Cuatro venezolano, Eliseo Castro en la Guitarra y Héctor Araguainamo en el Contrabajo.

The promotion and diffusion of the Brazilian Choro in Venezuela occurred more or less in the decade of the 80s of the last century, and the Choros that spread the most were, among others, "Noites Cariocas" by Jacob Pick Bitancurt (Jacob do Bandolin 1918 - 1969) and"Murmurando" by Otaviano de Assis Romero Monteiro (Fon Fon 1908 - 1951) and Mario Rossi (1902 - 1992). On this occasion, we are going to remember the memorable and unprecedented event, which occurred here in Venezuela, of one of the first audio-video recordings of the Brazilian Choro. This is the version that the Cumaná String Group "Curare" made of "Murmurando". This version was recorded by this group in the year 1985 in the Opus Program of Venezuela that was broadcast weekly by the National Television of Venezuela or Channel 5 - Venezolana de Televisión. The music was recorded in the format of the time that was on VHS , so they will write down some origin failures that happened went when converting the file to digitized format.

La promoción y difusión del Choro Brasilero en Venezuela ocurrió más o menos en la década de los años 80 del siglo pasado, y los Choros que más se difueron, fueron, entre otros, "Noites Cariocas" de Jacob Pick Bitancurt (Jacob do Bandolin 1918 - 1969) y "Murmurando" de Otaviano de Assis Romero Monteiro (Fon Fon 1908 - 1951) y Mario Rossi (1902 - 1992). En esta oportunidad, vamos a recordar el hecho memorable e inédito, ocurrido aquí en Venezuela, de una de las primeras grabaciones en audio - video del Choro Brasilero. Se trata de la versión que realizara el Grupo de Cuerdas de Cumaná "Curare" de "Murmurando". Esta versión la grabó este grupo en el año 1985 en el Programa Opus de Venezuela que se transmitía semanalmente por la Televisora Nacional de Venezuela o Canal 5 - Venezolana de Televisión. La música fue grabada en el formato de la época que era en VHS, por lo que van anotar algunas fallas de origen que se sucedieron al pasar el archivo a formato digitalizado.

The unmistakable style of Jacob do Bandolin

Here I leave you, which most of us musicians agree may be, the first version of "Murmurando" that was heard in Venezuela. This version was recorded, in the 50s of the last century, by Jacob do Bandolin and the musicians who accompanied him were, nothing more and nothing less than, those of the famous Group "Época de Oro". This version, definitely, greatly influenced Venezuelan musicians and, above all, the "Curare" Group from Cumaná..

Aquí les dejo, la que la mayoría de los músicos coincidimos puede ser, la primera versión de "Murmurando" que se escuchó en Venezuela. Esta versión fue grabada, en la década del 50 del siglo pasado, por Jacob do Bandolin y los músicos que lo acompañaron eran, nada más y nada menos que, los del famoso Grupo "Época de Oro". Esta versión, definitivamente, influyó enormemente en los músicos venezolanos y, sobre todo, en el Grupo "Curare" de Cumaná.

Here is another version that Nilze Carvalho recorded in 1980 accompanied by the same group that accompanied Jaco do Bandolin, "Época de Oro". In this version, it is included at the beginning a Clarinet, and at the end a Saxophone. This version, like Jacob, also influenced Venezuelan musicians.

Aquí les dejo esta otra versión que grabara Nilze Carvalho en 1980 acompañada por el mismo Grupo que acompaño a Jaco do Bandolin, "Época de Oro". En esta versión, se incluye al principio un Clarinete, y al final un Saxofón. Esta versión, del mismo modo que Jacob, también influyó en los músicos venezolanos.

As you can see, doing a comparative exercise, the versions of (Jacob and Nilze) were two very influential references in the Curare Group and, above all, in my musical personality as a mandolin player, because over time this type music has become part of my interpretive style, which is a natural reflection of my admiration for these two great artists who, for quite some time and to this day, are a hallmark of Brazilian music that is hey in the world. When the Brazilian Choro was hardly a complete stranger here in Venezuela, already the Curare de Cumaná Group, often interpreted this musical genre with quite naturalness and style.

Las versiones de (Jacob y Nilze) fueron dos referencias muy influyentes en el Grupo Curare y, sobre todo, en mi personalidad como mandolinista, pues con el tiempo este tipo de música se ha convertido en parte de mi estilo interpretativo, lo cual es un reflejo natural de mi admiración hacia estos dos grandes artistas que, desde hace ya bastante tiempo y hasta el día de hoy, son un sello distintivo de la música brasilera que se oye en el mundo. Cuando el Choro Brasilero era, apenas, un completo desconocido aquí en Venezuela, ya el Grupo Curare de Cumaná, con frecuencia interpretaba este género musical con bastante naturalidad y estilo.

With this I hope to contribute, a little more, to knowledge of the history of our music, its styles, its interpreters, its promotion and dissemination, and the appreciation of the significant contribution of each of our musicians, composers and interpreters to the Venezuelan cultural-musical heritage.
