MY HOBBIES

There are things you enjoy doing when you are less busy, things that you can do for a very long time without getting tired... What are those things?

The first task this week is sharing and talking about our hobbies. And this is one that I could go on and on about. But I'd keep it short all the same.

Hobbies, as defined by the dictionary, are activities done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure.
They are activities we do to have fun, unwind, and de-stress after a long day. They can help us cope with some hard times in life coz when we're doing them, all our worries float away.

I personally have a lot of hobbies. Some I engage in more than others. These hobbies include everything music, sports(swimming majorly, cycling too), writing(poems, songs,), reading, star gazing, evening strolls, travelling, discussing with friends.

Let's take the first one, music! Music has been a big part of my life since I was a little boy. My dad was kinda against it and took away the church keyboard I was using as at then. I resorted to whistling. At least, he couldn't take that away.
More than anything, I love, and love to listen, to good music. There's just something the right music for the mood does to your soul that is just remarkable and unexplainable, almost divine even.

One of my aims is to try to make music that sounds almost as good as, if not as good as, my favorite songs. This is why I play musical instruments. And I am learning a number of them. A major hinderance in progress has been the fact that I do not own most of these instruments myself, due to financial reasons. I play the guitar, which is my main instrument. Other instruments I flirt with include the keyboard, sax, drum set, and the violin. I also recently started learning beat making and music production on my laptop. My voice has not been left out of this also, as I try my utmost best to improve on it as best I can.

The next hobby I'll talk about is swimming. When I started swimming in my first year in the University, I never imagined I would take it as far as I have now. One year down the line, I joined the school swimming team and it all changed from there. Now, I am in my final year, and I am currently one of the best and most respected swimmers in the University of Ibadan. Of course, I have bosses that trained me, that have graduated.😅

Cycling is another sporting activity I enjoy a lot, even thought I don't get to do it a lot because I don't have my own bicycle. I also jog sometimes, but I mostly do that out of necessity to stay fit for my swimming. Not particularly because I enjoy it.

The next 2 hobbies, reading and writing, are interconnected. The constant reading gave rise to the need to birth a few original pieces of my own, and I haven't stopped since. I am writing right now, with little effort due to all the practice I have put into it in the past. I have written poems, songs, articles, blog posts. I currently do some freelance writing as well.

Well, the other hobbies do not require much talk. I like star gazing at night. Some people think it's weird. But I have come to find that it clears my head. Plus, I am a lover of nature. I take ending strolls a lot too. The gentle breeze makes it ever so enjoyable. I also love traveling and seeing sights. I love discovering new places, people, and things. And of course, since humans are social brings, we really cannot do without having discourses with our fellow human beings.

These hobbies keep me sane whenever life seems to be tough at the moment. And even when it's all today, I still enjoy these activities a lot. I believe everyone should have hobbies they can get lost in to escape the noise this world generates sometimes.
