Today I want to present one of my favorite songs. "Sabor a mi" by maestro Avaro Carrillo, a Mexican composer recognized in the world, gives the Latin American song.
Creator of themes such as: The lie, God will know, A little more, among others. Álvaro Carrillo is a man who does not need an introduction, and if he requires it, his strongest letter is undoubtedly "Sabor a mi". The song was registered on July 11, 1958 before the promoter Hispano América de Música (PHAM) and recorded in the middle of 1959.
Since then #Sabor a mi "is not only a reference of Carrillo's music, it is a Universal cultural icon that has been sung in Spanish, English, French, Japanese, German, Portuguese, Russian, Italian. The same by maestro Álvaro Carrillo, evidently going through Bebo Valdés, Pérez Prado, Isabel Pantoja, Lila Downs and there is even a version of Charles Manson, yes the serial killer, for that reason and more his recordings and copies sold must be counted in millions.
It is then Mario Carrillo who shares with us this story of the subject, thanks to the memory of his aunt Guadalupe Inchcastletegui Guzmán, his mother's sister.
"It was in December of that year, 1957, when at Christmas dinner, my father drank whiskey and between drinks he placed a kiss on my mother. My mother, like almost every woman, began to complain that she was drinking too much, suggesting But my father made "Mutis" to pour himself another whiskey and so, sip by sip and kiss after kiss, the complaints became routine. In one of those, my aunt says, my mother told Álvaro that She was already drunk from so much kissing, that if she had anything to drink it already had a whiskey flavor. My father, after a brief pause, turned around and said: "What you have in your mouth is not a whiskey flavor, it is ... Taste of me ". Both, accomplices of poetry, understood at that moment that the phrase raised by that claim was a poetic sentence that should become a song. My mother wrote it down as a task for my father and, breaking her sobriety, she took a drink from the glass of my father and they toasted what would be, probably, the greatest success that Álvaro Carrillo has composed ".
Tanto tiempo disfrutamos de este amor
Nuestras almas se acercaron, tanto así
Que yo guardo tu sabor
Pero tú llevas también
Sabor a mí
Si negaras mi presencia en tu vivir
Bastaría con abrazarte y conversar
Tanta vida yo te di
Que por fuerza tienes ya
Sabor a mí
No pretendo ser tu dueño
No soy nada, yo no tengo vanidad
De mi vida doy lo bueno
Soy tan pobre, ¿qué otra cosa puedo dar?
Pasarán más de mil años, muchos más
Yo no sé si tenga amor la eternidad
Pero allá, tal como aquí
En la boca llevarás
Sabor a mí
No pretendo ser tu dueño
No soy nada yo no tengo vanidad
De mi vida doy lo bueno
Soy tan pobre, ¿qué otra cosa puedo dar?
Pasarán más de mil años, muchos más
Yo no sé si tenga amor la eternidad
Pero allá, tal como aquí
En la boca llevarás
Sabor a mí
Taste of me
Älvaro Carrillo
So long we enjoyed this love
Our souls grew closer, so much like that
That I keep your flavor
But you also carry
Taste of me
If you deny my presence in your life
It would be enough to hug you and talk
So much life i gave you
That you already have
Taste of me
I don't pretend to be your owner
I am nothing, I have no vanity
I give the good of my life
I'm so poor, what else can I give?
More than a thousand years will pass, many more
I don't know if eternity has love
But there, just like here
In your mouth you will carry
Taste of me
I don't pretend to be your owner
I am nothing, I have no vanity
I give the good of my life
I'm so poor, what else can I give?
More than a thousand years will pass, many more
I don't know if eternity has love
But there, just like here
In your mouth you will carry
Taste of me
