Creo que todos tenemos un artista que ha marcado un "antes" y un "después" en nuestras vidas —musicalmente hablando—, ¿No? Bien, en mi caso, Ximena Sariñana fue una de las cantautoras que me sumergió en el mundo de la música indie y folk en español, hace ya varios años.

"Monitor" fue uno de los primeros temas que escuché de la cantautora; recuerdo lo encantado que estaba con el estilo simple y peculiar de la canción, mi oído me decía que era similar al pop tradicional, pero al mismo tiempo entendía que habían detalles de "otra cosa", cosa hermosa. Aún hoy mantengo mi cariño y respeto total hacia Ximena y sus canciones; supongo que pueden llamarme fanático, aunque no devoto, pero creo que es lo correcto.

En esta semana del "Hive Open Mic", la temática es "la supervivencia". "Monitor" es una canción que trata el tema del amor a distancia, y al parecer, la distancia está a punto de ganarle al amor en este caso.

I think we all have an artist who has marked a "before" and an "after" in our lives —musically speaking—, right? Well, in my case, Ximena Sariñana was one of the singer-songwriters who immersed me in the world of indie and folk music in Spanish, several years ago.

"Monitor" was one of the first songs I heard from the singer-songwriter; I remember how delighted I was with the simple and peculiar style of the song, my ear told me that it was similar to traditional pop, but at the same time I understood that there were details of "something else", beautiful thing. Even today I maintain my love and total respect for Ximena and her songs; I guess you can call me a fanatic, though not a devotee, but I think that's the right thing to do.

In this week of the "Hive Open Mic", the theme is "survival". "Monitor" is a song that deals with the theme of long-distance love, and it seems that distance is about to win over love in this case.
