The only game I lost was against the promising young Fernando Paco, who was leading the black pieces. It came to an endgame, in which I had only 10 seconds left on my clock, and before this check my white king was taken to the "e2" square, which was a great inaccuracy on my part. Instead, it was better to take the king to the center, and try to complicate the game with my passed pawn on "f".
In the interaction Fernando reflects on the importance of the 17th piece such as the clock, giving us very interesting tips on how to manage time. To feel the taste of defeat is sincerely not pleasant, that is why as chess players we must call for resilience, that is, to know how to face these difficult situations and move forward. Regarding these reflections, the sports authorities of Arequipa chess left us great messages:
"...chess is the basis for success, as long as we develop it with a lot of attitude."
"...in chess there are winners, there are losers, but the most important thing is that we can always put our board back together and start again."
And under the premise of getting to know more and more faces of Arequipa chess, we took the opportunity to interact with the strong player Jean Castro, another promising chess player from Arequipa, who at 11 years of age shows a great level in his games. For example, he showed a great forcefulness against the athlete Fernando Castro, with whom, by the way, was the only game I lost in the tournament:
Jean Castro confesses to us in the interaction about the tension in the process of achieving victory, given that although it was an endgame with pawn advantage, young Fernando always tried to complicate things. Finally, this round of interactions ends with an interview with Alvaro Rosas, a very talented child of Arequipa chess.
Alvaro Rosas had the privilege of participating in the VIII International Chess Festival Arica 2022, a very strong tournament that brings together important Grand Masters, International Masters, Fides Masters from various parts of the world, so there is no doubt that it was a great experience for this child, who had a good participation in chess at Blitz pace, so when he arrived in Arequipa, he was expected with a nice recognition:
