Y a horas de dar la bienvenida al mes de Diciembre, un mes lleno de mucha nostalgia así como también de muchas alegrías, quise traer una nueva sección de los tras cámaras en la formación de un pianista, esto con la intención de mostrar de un modo didáctico los desafíos a los que nos enfrentamos cuando queremos interpretar una determinada melodía, y por supuesto también en ese deseo de perfeccionar nuestra técnica.

And just hours before welcoming the month of December, a month full of much nostalgia as well as many joys, I wanted to bring a new section of the behind the scenes in the training of a pianist, this with the intention of showing in a didactic way the challenges we face when we want to interpret a certain melody, and of course also in that desire to perfect our technique.

Uno de los primeros temas que quiero tratar, es el relativo a como abordamos los compases que encierran una cierta complejidad, siendo acá de vital importancia el dominio de la lectura musical, la cual permite canalizar el estudio de la partitura. Desde que inició el año 2022, me propuse como meta dominar una melodía del maestro Antonio Lauro, esta melodía es Natalia, una melodía desde mi percepción bastante compleja pero que esconde una belleza sin igual.

One of the first topics I want to discuss is how we approach the measures that contain a certain complexity, being here of vital importance the mastery of music reading, which allows us to channel the study of the score. Since the beginning of the year 2022, I set myself the goal of mastering a melody of the master Antonio Lauro, this melody is Natalia, a melody from my perception quite complex but that hides an unparalleled beauty.

Vale destacar que no tengo una dedicación exclusiva al piano, por eso es un tanto ambicioso abordar el tema Natalia, pero me siento contento de que ya estoy dominando bastante bien la primera parte de la misma, y quiero confesarles que todos los compases me han parecido muy complejos. Y la forma como he podido dominarles ha sido a través de la repetición continua. Y si reflexionamos, así es como aprendemos muchas cosas en la vida, a través de la repetición.

It is worth mentioning that I do not have an exclusive dedication to the piano, so it is somewhat ambitious to approach the theme Natalia, but I am happy that I am already mastering the first part of it quite well, and I want to confess that all the measures have seemed very complex to me. And the way I have been able to master them has been through continuous repetition. And if we reflect, this is how we learn many things in life, through repetition.

Es fascinante, es un milagro de la vida como nuestra memoria tiene diversas facetas, una de ellas es la memoria muscular, como nuestros dedos aprenden. Evidentemente este tipo de memoria va enlazado con esa memoria rítmica musical que nos da la garantía de lo que estamos tocando suene como debe ser. Por lo que todo se resume en trabajo fuerte y mucho estudio. Recuerdo un maestro al cual le consultaba sobre cómo vencer el miedo escénico al tocar, ese miedo a equivocarse en publico. Muy sabiamente me responde: se equivoca el que poca estudia…y desde allí esa frase la tengo en mi mente.

Mi viaje en el HANON continua…

Por el poco tiempo que dispongo para estudiar piano, el HANON es mi método predilecto para mantener la destreza y fortaleza en mis dedos. Hace ya unos meses les presenté este trabajo:

It is fascinating, it is a miracle of life how our memory has several facets, one of them is muscle memory, how our fingers learn. Evidently this type of memory is linked to that musical rhythmic memory that gives us the guarantee that what we are playing sounds as it should. So it all comes down to hard work and a lot of study. I remember a teacher whom I asked about how to overcome stage fright when playing, that fear of making a mistake in public. Very wisely he answered me: the one who doesn't study enough is wrong... and since then I have that phrase in my mind.

My journey on the HANON continues...
