Back to adventure!

I wanted to share this from that travel day... It was kinda wild.

Most people don't know what nationality I am because I am such a global mix! Haha (by the way! My DNA test comes back sooooon in 2 days!!)

So fairly often, Spanish speakers will come up to me and not hesitate to speak Spanish. I took Spanish I school as a small child so I remember only a smattering of words.

A woman came up to me, panicked that she didn't know where to go. ( I could guess by her non-verbal language... Because I didn't know the words she was saying)

I hoped that she might know enough English if I spoke slowly and also kinda used "sign language" and pointed to her ticket, gate sign, etc.

To no avail! Lol

After I explained it all, I looked at her and saw her confusion... Asked her if she understood. .she shook her head "no".

How ironic that if she had asked me in Spanish that I understood....and when I ask her in English if she understood....we can BOTH understand that phrase!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

But that's all!!!

Now here is the thing... AFTER this encounter, I told my daughter and she just said..."why didn't you use Google translate?"

DUH!

YES...WHY?!?

hahahaha we have ALL this technology at our hands and in the MOMENT we need it, it is furthest thing from my mind!!!! 😂

It would have been SO EASY to use Google translate!!! But in the moment, I was struggling with my "Sign language" and thinking how to help this poor woman!!

She was carrying a tiny baby too! Gahhhhh HELP ME HELP HER!!! 😂

She walked away and was about 100 feet away when I remembered something! I went...checked...yes!

So I RAN after her and tapped her on the shoulder. Motioning for her to follow me, she looked a little apprehensive hehehe. Funny because we had just spoken...surely she didn't forget me!

She did follow.

She gave me her ticket, we scanned it, and there was all her info.

She handed me the baby's ticket (as if the baby would be traveling separate??? Lol) and of course it matched. She followed me to the gate and I handed her off with only 8 minutes to spare! Yipes! Hehehe

Lesson of the story?

Your phone can help you in these situations!!! Let it! 😁
