This song has some really deep meaning as well as it has a good feel of sound.
I had been thinking about performing the song, but this week's theme just gave me the needed push to go ahead... "Ethics + Freedom"
It talks about the Policeman and the Prison guard who treat the prisoner in a depraved manner. It then shows that the person who thinks of himself as free is perhaps as well a prisoner in some way. In this case it talks about the "free man" still being under the clutches of the politician and those who hold power.
So it admonishes him that thinks he's free to actually reason and realize that both the free and the imprisoned are actually still prisoners in some respect.
And so in the song the supposed prisoner is asking the Jailer why he keeps calling him a prisoner when they are in fact both "prisoners".
This song is a true work of poetry by Asa. A very beautiful musical story.
In the quest of being a good man and claiming to have freedom, remember that no one is truly a "stand-alone island", free to do as he/she wishes.
Perhaps that's the twist between Ethis and Freedom!
Enjoy the piece!
