Caused By The Tsunami

The song "Saweub Ie beuna" tells the story of a mother who lost her child to the Tsunami that occurred in Aceh December 26, 17 years ago.

The word Ie Beuna comes from the Acehnese language, namely the rising of the sea waves to the mainland.
In general, Ie Beuna means a very big flood or a flood that comes.

In my country, western Indonesia, namely Aceh, every December 26 we always commemorate the earthquake and tsunami that occurred 17 years ago.
The 2004 Aceh tsunami has always been a topic of discussion, starting from the height of the water waves, the massive damage, and mass casualties. The tsunami that devastated parts of Aceh occurred within 30 minutes, with a height of up to 30 meters and a speed of up to 360 kilometers per hour. As a result, more than 120,000 people died in the disaster. The United Nations declared the Aceh tsunami one of the largest humanitarian disasters ever to occur.
According to data, the disaster was the largest and strongest earthquake since the 17th century, now in the 21st century, which caused the rise of a very powerful wave from the sea to hit the mainland of Aceh, reaching as far as 16 km, even in certain places it reached 12 km into remote areas of the mainland with an earthquake strength of 8, 9 on the Richter scale and the depth of the epicenter under the sea was 80 km.

According to Japanese scientists, they concluded that the rising sea waves (Tsunami) that hit Aceh were equivalent to the power of 5 atomic bombs dropped by the United States on the Japanese city of Hiroshima in the second world war in 1942. Until finally the international community was moved to carry out rehabilitation and recovery in Aceh. And finally Aceh returned to normal.
This video was taken when Tangke and the band performed at a charity event that was funded to help during the earthquake-affected area.
Tangke band is an ethnic music group, famous for combining traditional Acehnese music with modern music.


In addition to using modern musical instruments such as guitar, bass and drums, TANGKE also uses various traditional Acehnese musical instruments such as the Rapa'i (a type of Aceh-framed drum), Seurune Kalee (a wind instrument typical of Aceh), and the Drum (a double-sided membrane drum typical of Aceh).
