    About :

This is the second post of the three-post MIA Diaries series I’m doing to cover the events that happened during my inactivity here two weeks ago when we started exam. This event happened on Saturday 3 weeks ago,and It covers the second theme of my school’s SRC week celebration, Artists Night, where we had a performance by a famous Ghanaian musician called Fancy Gadam. It was a wonderful night! You can check out the first post of the series here

Here’s the twisted part though. You’d be expecting that because it was just two days to the start of exam, the attendance for the event will be poor because people would be busy studying for the start of exam in two days right? Wrong! Students attended massively, and honestly, I wasn’t surprised. I expected this. I’ll explain why.

My school is not one that takes entertainment very serious. I’ve been in my school for 4 years now and we’ve NEVER celebrated SRC Week. It’s supposed to be a tradition to celebrate SRC week every year, but for reasons unbeknown to us students, my batch in particular unfortunately haven’t seen any SRC week celebration the 4 years we’ve been here. Until this one of course. So it makes sense that students took this Artist Night as a once-in-a-lifetime (Once in a 4-year degree time in our case lol)opportunity to enjoy this fun night because it might really never happen again until they leave this school.

So yeah it was a pretty cool night. I repeated my outfit for dinner from a few weeks ago if you read my awards & dinner post. I don’t think anyone noticed though because of the crowd and the fact that the auditorium’s lightning was not clear enough to focus on detail like that.

I got to the event pretty late at 12am(that’s like midnight here) because I knew Fancy Gadam, the artist performing at the occasion was one that likes late performances(and I was right). As you can see from the picture above, there was a long que waiting to get inside even that late at night. After two hours of waiting and fake hype about him finally coming on stage, we saw him at 2am and the occasion officially started. Not that we were sitting idly waiting for him, but let’s just say he was the main site of attraction for the occasion and the reason why a lot of people attended. While we waited for him, there were of course performances by smaller or relatively new artists(Underground Artists). Some of them were pretty good if I’m being honest.

When Fancy Gadam came on stage, the crowd started moving closer to the stage until the stage was almost taken over by us. Most of the people that were upstairs came down too and got closer. People ran to touch him, others to take pictures with him but were stopped by the artist’s security. A few managed to evade them though, just long enough for a quick selfie. I was surprised when I found myself full of energy and having so much love and showing so much interest in his performance. I thought I didn’t like him that much. I was clearly wrong.

At this point, if you haven’t watched the video at the beginning of the post yet, this is where I tell you to go watch the video now to get a feel of the occasion. You won’t understand the songs we’re singing because they’re in Ghanaian dialects. But you can still appreciate the enthusiasm and the positive energy and the fun people were having(including me🙃). I’m sorry about the camera continuously shaking through out the video. If you notice closely, that happens every time Fancy Gadam comes close to me. People kept pushing us in front to get closer to him.

The night was awesome! We left the school auditorium(venue for the occasion) around 3am, I think. Back to ours hostels to wake up with minds ever ready to devour books the following day.

I took the videos myself and edited it into a compilation using VivaVideo. Do pardon my video editing as I'm no expert. Also All pictures watermarked are from my school’s SRC camera guy who has released pictures to us students to use freely. They’re too many pictures to post, but I hope you enjoyed these ones!

    Have a great day people!
