According to the official story, Canadian singer Paul Anka, on vacation in France, saw François perform it on a television show, Téle Dimanche, and fell in love with the melody. A few days later, Diana's astute creator secured the exclusive Comme d'habitude publisher in English, which he purchased in a batch of songs. He himself adapted the lyrics, completely changing its meaning: "Yes, there were times, / I'm sure you know, / that I bit / more than I could chew, / but during that time, / when there were doubts, / I ate everything / and I spat it out, / I faced everything / and I didn't sink, / I did it my way.
