La criptografía Literalmente es una «escritura secreta» se ha definido tradicionalmente, como el ámbito de la criptología que se ocupa de las técnicas de cifrado o codificado destinadas a alterar las representaciones lingüísticas de ciertos mensajes con el fin de hacerlos ininteligibles a receptores no autorizados.

Cryptography Literally "secret writing" has traditionally been defined as the field of cryptology that deals with encryption or scrambling techniques aimed at altering the linguistic representations of certain messages in order to make them unintelligible to unauthorised recipients.

Estas técnicas se utilizan tanto en el arte como en la ciencia y en la tecnología. Por tanto, el único objetivo de la criptografía es conseguir la confidencialidad de los mensajes, para lo cual se diseñan sistemas de cifrado y códigos.^Fuente

These techniques are used in art, science and technology. The sole objective of cryptography is therefore to achieve confidentiality of messages, for which encryption systems and codes are designed.^Source
