¡Saludos y bendiciones a la familia de Hive!

Este video es parte del repertorio de un ensemble que nació en medio de la pandemia de la Covid-19. Es un placer presentarles a "Palomonte Quintet". Una hermandad musical entre 5 clarinetistas cubanos que se mueven entre el jazz, la música popular cubana y la música clásica.

Palomonte es el título con que nombre al ensemble por varias razones:

1. Palomonte es (según la enciclopedia virtual cubana EcuRed): Regla de Palo Monte o Palo Monte. Esta expresión religiosa, tiene su raíz en los cultos practicados en el reino del Congo y otras monarquías subordinadas de origen Bantú, término con que la etnología occidental reunió bajo una misma denominación a la comunidad de pueblos del África oriental, central y austral que hablaban esa lengua en cualquiera de sus variantes. Conocida también como Mayombe, esta Regla fue el resultado inicial de la transculturación de los credos bantúes a la sociedad Cubana. https://www.ecured.cu/Regla_de_Palo_Monte
2. Nuestra música es resultado de la sincretización de las religiones africanas y la católica, por ende, desde un instrumento de raíz europea defendemos la música cubana: ritmática, cadenciosa y caliente!!
3. Nuestro instrumento, el clarinete, es un instrumento de madera negra.
4. Según el argot popular cubano "... aquí quien no tiene de Congo tiene de Karabalí..." en clara referencia a que nuestra sociedad está permeada de influencias y raíces del continente africano (cuna de la especie humana).

Según lo antes mencionado, no es casual que el primer tema de nuestro repertorio sea "Manteca". Tema de latin-jazz nacido del encuentro, respeto y posterior amistad entre dos Afro-Titanes de la música cubana y norteamericana: Chano Pozo y Dizzie Gillespie.
El arreglo que escribí presenta los elementos polirítmicos de la música cubana con frases improvisadas y "riffs" del vocabulario de jazz.

Greetings and blessings to the Hive family!

This video is part of the repertoire of an ensemble that was born in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is a pleasure to introduce you to "Palomonte Quintet". A musical brotherhood between 5 Cuban clarinettists who move between jazz, Cuban popular music and classical music.

Palomonte is the title with which I name the ensemble for several reasons:

1. Palomonte is (according to the Cuban virtual encyclopedia EcuRed): Rule of Palo Monte or Palo Monte. This religious expression has its roots in the cults practiced in the kingdom of the Congo and other subordinate monarchies of Bantu origin, a term used by Western ethnology to bring together under the same name the community of peoples from eastern, central and southern Africa who spoke that language in any of its variants. Also known as Mayombe, this Rule was the initial result of the transculturation of Bantu creeds into Cuban society. https://www.ecured.cu/Regla_de_Palo_Monte
2. Our music is the result of the syncretization of African and Catholic religions, therefore, from an instrument with European roots, we defend Cuban music: rhythmic, cadenced and hot!
3. Our instrument, the clarinet, is a blackwood instrument.
4. According to popular Cuban slang "... here who does not have Congo has Karabali..." in clear reference to the fact that our society is permeated by influences and roots of the African continent (cradle of the human species).

As mentioned above, it is no coincidence that the first song in our repertoire is "Manteca". Latin-jazz theme born from the encounter, respect and subsequent friendship between two Afro-Titans of Cuban and North American music: Chano Pozo and Dizzie Gillespie.
The arrangement I wrote presents the polyrhythmic elements of Cuban music with improvised phrases and "riffs" from the vocabulary of jazz.
