This Splinterland Match Is Too Close For Comfort

**Rule Sets: Close Range and Noxious Fumes **

The title of this article is no exaggeration – this particular match was truly too close for comfort.

In this particular match up, my team was up against an Owster Rotwell sporting two legendary cards: Ancient Lich and Dark Ha’on. Not only that, my opponent also brought Halfling Alchemist, Grim Reaper, Furious Chicken and Undead Badger along.

My team on the other hand consisted of Bortus, Axe Master, Creeping Ooze, Cyclops, Sea Monster and Water Elemental. On the quality of the cards alone overshadowed my team which is why when I saw my opponent’s lineup, I initial impression was that I’m screwed – and I’m almost right because my opponent’s team almost decimated my team (front and back) in just Round 2.

Fortunately, luck was on my side. Or rather, it was the rule sets that are on my side because although I’m not doing much damage to my opponent; the poison was.

The Noxious Fumes rule sets added poison to my and my opponent’s monsters – damaging them by 2 points each round. Of course, my team was the same as well but Axe Master and Water Elemental was somehow able to get to Round 3. Well, only somehow because Water Elemental was killed by the poison in the same round leaving me with just Axe Master.

Round 3 was where everything turns around. Normally, I would have lost already in this round because Axe Master uses range attack but thanks to the Close Range rule set, my Axe Master was able to attack despite being in the front. And with the help of Axe Master’s superior speed, it attacked Dark Ha’on and Ancient Lich (who both has 1 Health left) in the same turn (it could attack twice thanks to Double Strike); killing both of them, and thus giving me the win.

As you could see, the MVP of my team was Axe Master but the true MVP that gave me the win was the rule sets. That being said, without speed, Axe Master’s Double Strike ability, and a lot of luck, I would have lost.
