Today I bring you a very special post, my dear Hivers. Today I want to tell you about one of the reggae and ska bands that marked an era and were an icon of our music in Venezuela. "King Changó" this band was created in New York, (Yes, in New York), by the well-known José Blanco, nicknamed “Blanquito Man” and his brothers Luis Blanco “Negrito Man”. This band managed to merge a large number of indigenous Venezuelan sounds where the Venezuelan cuatro or the Zulian bagpipe stand out. The name of this band refers to the Changó king of the Yoruba religion, adopting this orisha name of Afro-Cuban origin. In the eighties, blanquito man migrated to the United States in search of a better future and it was there in New York where he created the band, which is why one of his songs,

"Illegal immigrant in New York", inspired by the theme of " Sting ”english man in new york, was one of their iconic songs of the band and this explains their reason for being. In Venezuela "King Chango" in the 90's became one of the bands with the greatest projection in our country, becoming almost the ambassadors of reggae music in Venezuela along with "mata rica" and "mulato" being along with the Argentine band "Los Pericos", the Chilean bands "Los cafres" and "Gondwana". Unfortunately we were surprised by the death of our great white man musical hero, who lost the fight against cancer, finding himself at his home in New York in 2017. It would not be until a few years later that “Rawayana” gave them a well-deserved tribute with one of his biggest hits “Sin Ti”.

Hoy les traigo un post muy especial, mis estimados Hivers. Hoy quiero hablarles de una de las bandas de reggae y ska que marcaron una época y fueron icono de nuestra música en Venezuela “King Changó” esta banda fue creada en New York, (Si en nueva york), por el muy conocido José blanco, apodado “Blanquito Man” y su hermanos Luis Blanco “Negrito Man”. Esta banda logró fusionar una gran cantidad de sonidos autóctonos venezolanos donde destacan el cuatro venezolano o la gaita zuliana. El nombre de esta banda se refiere al rey changó de la religión yoruba, este adoptando este nombre orishá de origen afro cubano. en los ochentas, blanquito man migró a los estados unidos en busca de un mejor futuro y fue allá en nueva york donde creó la banda, es por esto que uno de sus temas, “Inmigrante ilegal en new york”, inspirado del tema de “Sting” english man in new york, fue uno de sus temas iconos de la banda y esto explica su razón de ser. En Venezuela “King Chango” en la década de los 90´s se convirtió en una de las bandas de mayor proyección en nuestro país, convirtiéndose en casi los embajadores de la música reggae en Venezuela junto con “mata rica” y “mulato” estando a la par con la banda argentina “Los Pericos”, las bandas chilenas “Los cafres” y “Gondwana”. Lastimosamente fuimos sorprendidos por la muerte de nuestro gran héroe musical blanquito man, quien perdió la lucha contra un cáncer, encontrándose en su domicilio en nueva york en el año 2017. No sería hasta unos años después que “Rawayana” les dio un merecido homenaje con uno de sus más grandes éxitos “Sin Ti”.

“Sin Ti” is one of the most iconic songs of this legendary band, from which it quickly became one of the most popular songs in Latin America. In Venezuela, this band had a great fame, filling each stage where they went and influencing a large number of groups that were formed throughout the 90's and 2000's.

“Sin Ti” es uno de los temas más icónicos de esta banda legendaria, de la cuales se convirtió rápidamente es uno de los temas más sonados en Latinoamérica. En Venezuela, esta banda tuvo una gran fama, llenando cada escenario donde iban e influenciando una gran cantidad de agrupaciones que se fueron formando a lo largo de la década de los 90’s y 2000´s.
