Howdy Gamers
Last week I saw a post on a Skyrim Facebook group which mentioned there is a full set of insulated and enchanted Dragonbone plate armour which can be found early in the game.
The post didn't have any video or show any screenshots it simply mentioned an area called Archwind Point.
This map I made shows our journey from Riften into Archwind.
I had never been to this area in any of my previous playthroughs of Skyrim and the thought of finding a full set of Dragonbone armour there intrigued me greatly.
Im playing on Survival mode which means this insulated armour would really make life in the colder climates a lot easier. Add the high level enchants and the superior armour rating and we have plenty of reason to go and investigate if these claims of fabled armour hidden high a-top a snow covered tower are true.
In the video above we travel to Archwind point from Whiterun. I made a sort of highlight intro reel like I do with most of my videos and edited the footage I had to the theme tune from "Conan The Adventurer" and "Up Where The Truth Lies" which is another great 90s fantasy cartoon theme from "Prince Valiant".
I watched both of those cartoons as a kid growing up in the 90s and I have had those theme tunes, and many others stuck in my head since then. I had a blast editing some footage to those tunes yesterday :).
In survival mode we cant use fast travel but we can use the carriage's to get to any of the Capital cities.
Riften is the closet city so we head there first.
As soon as we arrive in Riften we have a Dragon to deal with, this fight was over pretty quickly and yielded us some gold and Dragon bones and scales to sell.
I'm not all that familiar with Riften so I decided to head in to the city to sell the bones and scales and pick up some food supplies.
All stocked up its time to head on the road from Riften to Froakis shack.First a quick shortcut across the lake...
The journey here was fairly straight forward although we did get attacked by a small band of goblins which was pretty cool. Goblins are part of the creation club content and I guess are added into this anniversary edition.
It was fun to see a new enemy type, a fantasy rpg needs to have bands of raiding goblins I'm glad to see this addition to the game.
When we reach Froais shack we find a circlet of minor archery..
Lets start climbing up into the snowline until we arrive at this statue. There are a couple of skill books here ,some gold and a few imperial items.
Heading into Archwind pass we have a fight with a couple of wolves. There is a dead Nord in this little area ,he has a gold necklace as loot which is worth taken to sell or enchant.
As we move deeper into the pass we find a handful of undead enemies, some Draugr, skeletons and a couple of elite Draugr.
There is supposed to be an Ancient Dragon that appears here but its apparently glitchy. The first time I arrived at this place it spawned and killed me while I was attacking the Draugr. The second time I came back it didn't spawn, maybe its random, maybe its glitched.
There is a Dragon shout just up these stairs
If the dragon doesn't appear this area is fairly easy to clear, at this point I was only level 5 and playing with a 2 handed Barbarian build and I managed it pretty easily with my Elven archer follower.
The only thing to think about is the cold if your playing on survival mode. You don't want to hang around or your max stats will get increasingly lower. I spent to much time killing wolves and looking around for loot and had to go back into the warmth before heading deeper into the pass. This kind of thing only adds to the immersion and RP of it all....I love these new mechanics.
The Dragonplate armour is found right at the top of this tower. There is a slain Nord warrior up here wearing the armour.
There is also a boss chest with some decent loot.
Thats pretty much it, a cool little addition to the new version of the game which is well worth checking out as soon as you can. I had a blast collecting the footage for the video and editing it to classic fantasy cartoon music.
Hopefully you guys enjoy the post and the video.
In the next Skyrim video were going to be checking out a new Necromancer themed quest called The Rising Dead
Stay tuned :)
