Three Tune Tuesday 36 - Bob Dylan Special - Rambling Gambling Willie - Love Minus Zero - Baby Blue

This week for @ablaze 's Three Tune Tuesday I'm going with 3 Bob Dylan Tunes.

The first tune of the set is called "Rambling Gambling Willie". This is a rework of an old Irish folk tune called "Brennan On The Moor" which the Irish folk group The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem used to play in their sets in the early 1960s in Greenwich village in New York City.

A young Dylan probably around age 17-18 was exposed to and heavily influenced by songs like this early in his career. Dylan took this song which was originally about a legendary Irish highway man named Willie Brennan who lived in the late 18th and early 19th century and re wrote it to be about a gambler named Will O Connolly which was one of the pseudonym's for Wild Bill Hickock.

I first heard this tune in a Liam Clancy concert where he talks about meeting Dylan during this magical time in the early 1960s.

The next 2 songs were inspired by the Dylan documentary "Dont Look Back" which was filmed by D.A Pennebaker during Dylan's 1964 UK tour.

The first song is Love Minus Zero / No Limits. I couldn't find the version from "Dont Look Back" so here is a lovely version from the 1965 Newport Folk Festival.

"Dont Look Back" is a great piece of musical history.I doubt D.A Pennebaker would have realised at the time the magic he was capturing. In one scene we see Dylan talking with John Lennon in the back of a London cab, they are discussing John Cash among other things.

There is one scene where Scottish folk musician Donovan plays a song before handing the guitar to Dylan. Donovon asks Dylan to play "Its all over now baby blue"
