Howdy Gamers.
This game caught my attention today. Its a pixel art game in the style of Dark Souls where we have incredibly challenging boss fights right from the start of the game.
Here is the games description...
"Eldest Souls is a challenging, pixel-art boss-rush game. The Old Gods have long been imprisoned. Humanity has prospered. Great Kingdoms have arisen from the now forsaken temples of worship. But no longer… In their final act of vengeance, the Old Gods have unleashed a great Desolation upon the world. Farmlands have turned to deserts, rivers to dust. The Great Crusade sent to slay the imprisoned Gods once and for all, has all but perished, and the human Kingdoms are in disarray. A lone Crusader approaches the Citadel, ancient prison of the Gods. His objective is simple: slay them all.…"
The game opens with a nice little animated prologue...
Chunks of the moon fall to Earth , from one chunk springs humanity and from the other the Gods...
An evil demon god messes with the balance....
Humanity revolts and the Gods are imprisoned in The Citadel..
For a while there was peace but it never lasts...
The moon weeps and sheds a final tear...
A shard of the purest Obsidian...
...which someone has turned into a huge Obsidian God slaying sword for our badass hero!
The video above covers the first boss fight with a monster called the Watchdog....This guy stands guard outside The Citadel.
I managed to kill The Watchdog on my second attempt.
Lets take a look at how combat works here.
In the beginning its fairly simple we can dodge use a regular attack and a charged attack.
This is the light attack...
The charged attack lets us life steal for a short duration and also unleash a power attack. When the sword is charged its appearance changes and it glows red...
When we kill a boss we gain a skill point which can be spent in 1 of 3 skill trees...
Thats pretty much it...Kill bosses explore the map and kill more bosses...
I got to the second boss which is a Dark Knight style creature....I took several attempts at him but he is hard as hell ,its going to take some practice to get him down but as soon as I do Ill post a second video.
Overall I'm liking this game, the combat is simple but learning to charge your attacks and time them to steal some life and get in a power attack adds some strategy that is satisfying when you pull it of. The skill trees will keep combat interesting as things progress but you need to kill a God to unlock a new skill point so skill ups aren't something your going to get a lot of.
I like these retro art style games and I'm enjoying the challenge. I guess if your a fan of Dark Souls style games your probably going to enjoy the challenge here.
The game has mostly positive reviews and does have that just one more try factor. If any off you hive gamers check it out tag me in the video I would love to see how you guys get on with The Guardian Boss, the difficulty increase from the The Watch Dog to The Guardian is pretty ridiculous, its going to be fun trying to get a video of me slaying him.
