    About :

I previously mentioned in my introduction post that I'm a beginner skateboarder, and that living in Ireland there wasn't much facilities for it. Now that I am in Playa del Carmen Mexico there are loads of parks about!

I will admit, for a while after I came here I didn't actually go to a skatepark even though there is a small one only a short walk away from where I am living. I guess I was kind of shy to go, it can be intimidating going to a park as a beginner. When there are loads of really good skaters doing cool tricks and all you can do is an ollie and the odd time, badly land a kick-flip.

Then I met this pretty cool guy who skates, (he mostly scooters but also skateboards) and he invited me and my girlfriends brother (Keanu) to one of the skateparks in Playa. Keanu doesn't have a skateboard yet so our new friend (Anton) said he would bring his one, and we could all have a go on the skateboards and the scooter.

So we went to the Dif skatepark, located in the centre of Playa across the road from Walmart. I was surprised when I saw where it was as I've been to that Walmart and walked around that area so many times, and have never seen the park. It’s kind of hidden away behind the football field but it’s actually really easy to get too.

When we arrived, Anton was already there and showed us where it was, he then gave us a few tips on skating in the park, like how you have to bend your knees slightly when skating up the sides of the bowl (pumping), and some other tips like this. I’ve only ever skated In a skatepark one other time in my life so I did know a bit of the basics, but as it has been years since I had went to a park it was good to get a reminder of how its done.

Anton let us both use his scooter and Keanu ended up really liking it! More than skateboarding I think. For me I was more use to the skateboard and just didn't like the feeling of the scooter.

It was a lovely sunny day and we spent hours in the park. I didn't do loads, I just practised on the basics but it was still so fun. I love the atmosphere and watching the advanced skaters do there thing, I know I can get there if I keep practicing. Practice makes perfect right?

Anton is pretty awesome on the scooter and was doing loads of tricks. The video on this post is of him, and he actually has a YouTube Channel where he posts videos of his tricks and tips for skating.

What I thought of the park? Its a pretty good park, not that big, but not too small either. It was in a nice location and wasn't too packed with people, in the morning it was just us, later on in the day it got busier but there still wasn't to many people that you would be bumping into each other. I liked the layout of the park. It definitely had enough for a beginner anyway.

I can't wait to visit more parks around me and see what they are like compared to this one, and of course just have fun and practice on my skating!

    Thanks for reading :)
