Hello there, my fellow musicians and music lovers!

To top off my last entry for this cycle, I was saving something quite interesting. Week 87 ends on a high note with a Pajarillo Solo. I think many have been wondering when I was going to pull off such a piece. Well, you won't have to wait to much for it.

Pajarillo is a fixed harmonic pattern from Joropo. It's a very popular expression for Venezuelan plains. It is played on a pattern of iv - V7 - V7 - i. The lower case in the Roman numerals indicate minor chords. The whole thing is built on a repetition of those chords except for the revuelta which is a part that tends to be present at the beginning or end of the piece.

This piece is a thermometer of the skills of players. Without a doubt everyone wants to learn a Pajarillo solo when they start playing Soloist Venezuelan Cuatro. However, the changes of rhythm, strumming, flourishes, chord inversions and else make it something difficult to digest unless you have some practice. This is what I would could my first iteration of Pajarillo. Next year, I might be playing this differently. You never know. As more things get added to my technical repertoire, the pieces I know get better and more complex.

My version is played in the key of E minor contrary to the usual G minor that many players use. It is actually an easier key to start learning the progressions and phrasing on such a complex thing.

Nothing more to add around here more than being ecstatic to finally play this piece. My premiere of the solo came about during a concert some weeks ago. It was my closing number. And now it is also my closing number for this cycle!

    Enjoy!

    Pajarillo
